What you are about to witness is an amazing feat of shooting with a .17 HMR as a rabbit at 282 yards away goes down with no problem. We know that the .17 HMR was made to shoot accurately at long distances, but because the bullet is so small, its hard for most people to hit longer shots. But if you really know what you are doing, and know the science of long range shooting, hitting something like this 282 Yard shot on a rabbit is no problem. Most people won't even be able to spot the rabbit from that far away, much less actually pull off this amazing shot.
Its absolutely amazing how when a person knows exactly what the conditions are and how to account for them you are able to hit such a difficult shot with such ease. If you can hit a shot like this, well done on you; if not, it looks like you need to spend a little more time out on the range practicing. See this long range shot here.
Wow....because the surface diameter of a .30 cal bullet is so much bigger at almost 300 yards.....
With a 50 cal, you can be off by 3 or 4 yds, but because the size of the bullet, still get a kill...
(do I need a sarcasm tag)
I’ve nailed prairie dogs at 450 yards with a 22-250 pushing a 55gr Hornady SX...
So I see no problem with this shot...
In CA, you just yell out “Fifty Cal”, and the rabbit drops dead.
It's illegal to own or carry a 50 cal in California.
Even the words are a criminal offense.
Called a head shot on P-Dog at 500 yards with my 223 bolt gun shooting 52gr Match kings.
Watched my son shoot a P-dog at 247 with his 10-22
That’s pretty good with a 10-22 and a 223..
I had a Thompson Contender with a 14’ Remington 222 barrel That I used for under 300 yards. Had a Harris Scope and a bipod on it.. The recoil was so low I could see the hits..
Those were good days in Colorado..
Using a 10/22 and a subsonic round, I nailed a water moccasin through the head at 60 yards last summer, at night with only flashlight illumination.
Trick question. You can’t shoot that rabbit now, it’s duck season!
LOL; Elmer season
I know a guy out in Nevada that uses something similar and he takes out predator and economic impact animals for a living.
Awesome shot and video.
Apparently a head shot. While helping New Mexico thin the jackrabbit population, (to limit plague spreading) we observed that a Jack hit in the head with a .22 invariably does a high backflip...
Saw that from a shot with a .22 mag pistol on a jack laying by it’s hole. Went straight up about five feet and landed dead where it had been laying.
A bit chewy.
What was the point of shooting the rabbit?
What was the point of shooting the rabbit?...Dinner?
