When I was growing up in Chino, a friend's father was an AI for Carnation. That was a huge dairy area back then.

Nope. I’m in monument inscription, in the field so to speak. Would never have guessed it.

Growing up, I never thought I’d be a cop. I thought pilot, or military of some sort but Asthma kept me from that. Oddly it didn’t keep me from a badge and a gun. 23 years now, go figure. Looking forwrd to the day when i’m just a schmoe again. But 25 years of this means I’ll never see things like most people do.

I wound up becoming a vendor. Selling ice cream, and pizza in grocery stores for a living. Definitely not what I was expecting to do for a living.

I once knew a guy who fiddled worms for a living. Well part time. The rest of the time he didn’t do anything.

I grew up with the kids of a family owning a trucking company. After high school I went into heavy truck maintenance. However, strange things happened to machinery when I was around, and I was given the nickname ‘Lucky’. Then I knew it was time to give it up.

After military service, I broke into corporate security, military contractor type. Had lots of adventures and travel, but 24 years was enough for me.

In my job, I once ran into a guy whose last name was Diesel. Yes, he worked on diesel engines in big trucks.

Having spent nearly 10 years as a funeral director, I have never met a Mortuary Cosmetologist. One of the female directors would usually go off a picture, or the family would often call that person’s regular cosmetologist and ask them to do it. Often times they would for the normal fee or for free as a favor to the family.

6) DEATH DOULA

Income: $40,000 to $70,000 per year

Death can be a traumatic experience — not only for those experiencing it, but for those left behind. A "death doula" helps the dying and their family through the transition from life to what's next.

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die

Back in the Dark Ages I used to work rodeos and got to know the clowns. It is very dangerous work and they wear track shoes to get between the bulls and thrown riders.

They also provide comic relief with jokes and such. One such joke that I have seen done for the last 50 years got a rodeo clown fired a few years back. You all probably remember it. Some people are very thin skinned.

Well, I certainly never thought I’d end my career being in charge of LDAP configuration and administration. Getting the Novell eDirectory to play nice with Business Objects and SAP databases was quite challenging.

Dallas, Tx. 1986 : I was young and brash, a bit bold, due to the alcohol consumed earlier and trying to make conversation at 2:00 AM with the 'older' woman sitting next to me at the all night dinner. I was getting nowhere fast. I asked what she did for a living, as she was about to leave:

"Well, when you get arrested by the Dallas PD, I'm the one who will take your prints and picture."

"That being the case, I hope I never see you again."

She laughed. The ice had been broken.

It turns out being an artificial inseminator is not easy. If they don’t get kicked by the horse or cow they end up with carpal tunnel syndrome.

I fix technical problems for businesses in a lot of different industries.

It’s hard to find work, but I love working. Make about $120 to $180 per hour.

But now I have a product coming to market, and hope to stop thinking of work in hourly terms.

I want to be a bridesmaid. Is this something a 240 pound guy can do? I checked out the crab fisherman job but that seems like a lot of work. If I am a bridesmaid, do I get to take advantage of open bar during the reception?

I used to work as a ghost consultant on technological problems.

Word gets around quickly that someone is willing to provide technical help without ever claiming credit for the work.

A good way to meet deadlines and get the credit.

A lucrative and stay-at-home joy.

Payment was by cash-in-the-mail. I was only stiffed a few times. Money was excellent.

I rarely take jobs these days.

Medical, electrical engineering, computer sci were my fields.

I worked on some strange things indeed, many contributed to
conflicts like dessert storm.

I am totally discreet which is a pre-requisite for such work. I take security extremely seriously. I would never betray a client.

I’m working on something now that is very different for me.
Only time will tell how it will work out.

My absolute commitment to the safety of this nation is my guiding principle...one that I would rather die than betray...so I am a good fit for this sort of consulting. Nothing could cause me to betray a trust and very sophisticated use of encryption is my method of communication.
