It turns out being an artificial inseminator is not easy. If they don’t get kicked by the horse or cow they end up with carpal tunnel syndrome.
Or strong hands.
Our vet once sprained his entire hand and forearm due to a cow contracting during a pregnancy test. He was lucky nothing was broken.
There are other hazards associated with artificial insemination. In the early 60s in south east Nebraska, there was a young fellow providing these services. Most every farm had a small livestock herd and it was not always economically feasible or safe for everyone to own a good bull. Anyway this young man bought a VW and zoomed around the rural gravel and dirt roads as fast as his vehicle would go. Unfortunately, that was a bad combination and soon he was buried and someone else had that job.

My high school girlfriend’s father died of injuries sustained while breeding cows. A bull caught him in the neck with its horn, and he died several weeks later of infection.
Hell of a way to go.
Her mother never entered, nor allowed anyone else to enter, the master bedroom ever again. She bought a new wardrobe and slept on the recliner in the living room. Sad.
