If not for myths then what would people around here have to talk about when it came to the threads about the Southern rebellion? Take this thread, for example. "Lee himself never purchased or owned any slaves." Lee most certainly did, and Douglas Southall Freeman details as much in his biography of Lee. "In fact if you had asked him, he would have told you he was opposed to slavery." Mildly opposed, perhaps. But as late as 1865 he was saying that slavery was the best situation for blacks in the Confederate States. "Lincoln was a realist who would have done just about anything to save the Union, including tossing the constitution out the window, which he frequently did." That's just nonsense. "Two years after emancipation, Lincoln was concocting ways for the black population to be relocated to British Colonies in the Caribbean before he was assassinated." As is that. "What if Lincoln was more of a racist than Lee?" Depends on how you would define it. If you define it by today's standards than everyone back then - Lee, Lincoln, Jackson, whomever - is a stone racist. If you define it by the standards of the times then Lincoln looks pretty good compared with his peers.
Most people don’t have enough fingers or toes to count all the factual errors the author alleges in his rant.
Isn't it interesting that our contemporary commies are acting just like Stalin in this respect. Give them power, and they'll emulate ol' Uncle Joe in *every* respect: gulags and summary executions included.
Some of this is OK, right on even, but the majority is nonsense reflecting disrespect for real history as opposed to pro-Confederate propaganda.

Then, the Union troops at Ft. Barrancas take that honor.... a full three months before Sumter....January 8, 1861.
But if you want to focus on Ft. Sumter, the first shot was fired there by the Union Ship Harriet Lane, by Union Lieutenant Tompkins.
He was a part of the Lincoln Cabal military.

The Harriet Lane fired a warning shot against a ship closing on her at night while flying no colors.
The rebels fired upon Fort Sumter as an overt act of war against their own country.

Born in Texas actually, and grew up in Kansas. So both sides theoretically can lay claim to him.

Don't you love it when people idiotically retroject contemporary political issues and debates back into past centuries? The fact that J.C. Calhoun or Jefferson Davis were Democrats in the 19th century doesn't mean that their policies had anything in common with Obama's, because what defined Democrats (Democratic Republicans early in their history) and Republicans (Federalists and Whigs earlier in their history) weren't the issues the define the parties today. In fact, the defining issue separating Democrats from Republicans during most of the 19th Century was States' Rights (Democrats) vs. a stronger Federal Government (Republicans).
Of course, the people who say "The Confederacy was evil because it was founded by Democrats" spout that line hoping that someone listening to them is stupid enough to believe that because Calhoun or Davis were "Democrats" they would have supported transgender bathrooms or social welfare programs for illegal immigrants today.

The confederate flag is not a flag against political correctness!!! When anyone does that, what everyone else sees is racism, then they tar anti-PC as a bunch of racists. WE ARE NOT. Well, at least most of us. Please leave the confederate flag at home.
And, yes, you might argue otherwise, but realize that 90% of the American people will and do make the association of the confederate flag and racism. Rightly or wrongly, and ignoring all the politics of the Civil War, you cannot ignore that the KKK, neo-Nazis, skinheads, and others have forever tarred the confederate flag as racist.
What's even more funny is the fact that some conservatives eagerly support taking down Confederate monuments just because Confederates were Democrats, even though the Democrat/Republican ideological split in the 19th century had nothing to do with today's, and in spite of the fact that cheering the removal of Confederate monuments puts them on the same side of the issue BlackLivesMatter thugs and other leftist riffraff.
