'Alam mo ang mga Amerikano ganun...they are very assertive.'
President Rodrigo Duterte is urging Filipinos to stand up for their rights when dealing with unscrupulous officials and staff of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
Duterte has repeatedly vowed to go after government workers involved in corrupt practices, and he has proven he can put his money where his mouth is, firing scores of them in a presidential term that's barely a year old.
On Saturday, he said the tendency of some Filipinos to be non-confrontational emboldens such officials.
"You know what is contributing to the graft of our country? Kayo rin," Duterte said, speaking to the Filipino community in Doha during a state visit to Qatar on Saturday.
"Kasi lapitan kayo ng BIR maski na tama na iyan, maski na tama na ang declaration niyo, maghingi man ang mga iyan, bumibigay kayo. Para bang sabihin na para wala ng gulo.
"Kung sabihin niyo, 'Tama ho ang ginagawa ko. Andiyan lahat iyan. Ngayon ito lang ang bayaran ko. Ngayon kung pipilitin mo akong magbigay, p-----i-- mo sampalin kita ngayon.'
"You have to be assertive to help your country."
He pointed to the United States as a prime example of a country whose citizens don't back down when government takes advantage of them.
"Alam mo ang mga Amerikano ganun. Kita mo mga Amerikano, nasobrahan ng yabang ang mga g---ng iyan," Duterte said.
"Ganun iyan sila, they are very assertive. You have to stand up for your rights. Kaya huwag kayong mag-surrender sa kalokohan."
A TEA partier. Hated by America’s liberals, they’ll probably want to go to war now.
Duterte is a no-holds-barred, junk yard dog kind of guy.
He sounds more like a Founding Father every day.
Great Guy!
He pointed to the United States as a prime example of a country whose citizens don’t back down when government takes advantage of them.
...
The Deplorables don’t back down, but plenty of others do.
