British scientist Stephen Hawking fears he "may not be welcome" in the United States now that Donald Trump is President.
In an interview with ITV's Good Morning Britain on Monday, Hawking described President Trump's election as "a definite swing to a right-wing" and a "more authoritarian approach."
He was especially critical of the appointment of Scott Pruitt, "a man who does not believe that carbon dioxide causes climate change," as head of the Environmental Protection Agency.
"He should replace Scott Pruitt at the Environment Protection Agency," Hawking told ITV.
"Climate change is one of the great dangers we face, and it's one we can prevent," he said.
"It affects America badly, so tackling it should win votes for [Trump's] second term, God forbid."
He suggested that the appointment of Pruitt, as well as the promise of a border wall and the sanctioning of two oil pipelines, are designed to "satisfy [Trump's] electorate, who are neither liberal nor that well-informed."
"I have many friends and colleagues [in the US] and it is still a place I like and admire in many ways," he said, "but I fear that I may not be welcome."(continued)

Oh the drama.
Given all the rest of his knowledge, I'm beginning to wonder about the physics.
Brilliant in a few areas.
Dumber than a dozen Pelosys in all the others.
You see this guy IS a genius after all. It wasn’t a sure thing with some of the stupid stuff he has said.
A better source for physics information IMO is leonard susskind. He had a 20+ year debate with hawking and got hawking to admit he was right about what happens to information associated with an object sucked into a black hole. Lenny has a lot of youtube lectures if anyone is interested. Lenny is also a much better teacher than hawking.
I think he’s beginning to suffer mental incapacitation.
But Einstein himself was a nincompoop when he'd go off topic on things like politics.
(He liked socialism)
Ditto Carl Sagan.
Endless asinine liberal drivel when not talking about the universe.
He has done some real helpful research on cosmology. And I respect how he has held up well given his physical disabilities. But its hard to respect his intellect as much as I would have when he keeps making a public fool of himself outside his area of expertise.
I’m sorry - but Hawkins is a great narrative - not a great physicist.
He is no Feynamn. Most of his work wasted research funds. There were better physicists that were passed by to promote this false narrative.
>>not a great physicist<<
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That is correct. The whole cosmology he has promoted-—Big Bang, black holes etc.-—is garbage.
The assumption is the same as global warming: That if a bunch of academics share the same “Hunch” then the rest of us should just believe it.
At least not by this 8-year Marine and 25-year physicist...
Do not need left-wing socialist foreigners to add to our own (already crowded) progressive/communist scum-bucket...
Yeah...but can he do a slam-dunk?
“If I wanted to know about physics I’d ask this gentleman.”
He’s a has been — his contributions to physics have been refuted and bypassed. Frankly, he’s just not that bright. He does have a lot of time to spend thinking though, with his infirmity and all.
This guy wouldn’t be given a second thought were it not for his disability.
To claim there is no need for God because of gravitation?
What a jerk.
All this proves is expertise in one field does not imply expertise in another!
...and a lot of time for horndogging.
I truly believe that that's what this guy's doing and,as a result, his opinions mean less than nothing to me.
This guy has one hell of a strong wheelchair. He carries around a HUGE chip on his shoulder.
He’s emotionally stunted.
Geez, Steve! You are supposed to be smarter than that!
