I just don’t like having bullets pointed at the family jewels... side carry.
Not to mention that my job requires lots of sitting.
Shoulder holster, FTW.
I appendix carry. A good holster (raven concealment for me) and regular trigger discipline and you’re all set. It’s only really a safety hazard if one or both of these isn’t so
Maryland carry: Handguns can only be transported on a direct route from home to range and back or from home to gunsmith/gunshop and back. In other words, I’m supposed to be unarmed so I don’t injure a reliable democrat voter by defending myself.
Rule #2: Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
Appendix carry causes the muzzle to inherently cover things which I am very much not willing to destroy. Don’t.
Not addressed is back-up carry. Off side ankle on the inside? Thoughts?
I’d rather accidentally shoot myself in the ass than put one in the femoral artery. Small of the back at 5 o’clock for me.
Don’t have a round chambered. Solves that.
The appendix crowd is smug and always talks about how an unintended discharge is impossible if you don’t pull the trigger. But the tacticool crowd forgets...things happen.
Outside of magic “perfection land”, things happen.
There is no escaping that you are violating rules one and two. All guns are loaded, and never let the muzzle cover something you aren’t willing to destroy. And doing so with a muzzle pointed right at your nuts, pelvis, and femoral artery.
If any speed difference exists between appendix and side that affects you that profoundly, you are probably better off examining your lifestyle choices.
I “appendix carry” only.
All of my pistols are DA for the first shot, at least and I am not at all worried about an accidental discharge.
I would never consider it with a SAO pistol.
Crossdraw for me. I just zip up a few inches of my vest and my coat. Makes for easy draw in the winter and when seated in a vehicle.
Very recently, came home right at 1 a.m. and passing by a rural house near where I live I saw a pickup truck with lights on (brake lights & headlights) backed up to a house that is normally only occupied on weekends. Lined up on the gate with my headlights, called the Sheriff's office right away and when the occupant of the truck drove down toward the gate, I backed my car up even further and was ready to angle it for cover, pull on the guy and get ready to go...when he (the property owner who had driven in from out of state and had scarcely arrived) waved at me. It deescalated dramatically from there and I made a good friend for life who was overjoyed that someone was watching the place like that. Sure beats killing the wrong person at the wrong time.
Rule number two: If in the event you feel the need to pull a gun, then in the most underhanded, sneaky, deceptive and prejudiced manner make sure you can bring it to bear and kill whoever caused you to pull it. You better be justified, otherwise you're going to prison.
Rule number three: Learn to pull & shoot from the hip within 3-10 feet without a Weaver stance or whatever someone tries to tell you...point & shoot and make sure you hit an 8x10 sheet of paper at that distance. If you read this far, you will learn that a bullet-proof vest without a ballistic plate will NOT stop a .22 magnum. Heaven help whoever gets shot with that round. LEOs have to shoot better than that, but the general public will almost never need to shoot any better than that.

You know what you call someone that appendix carries?
