Does a teacher have to be a University graduate...or is that optional now?
How does it help our children to be taught by illiterates?
Language, reading, speaking, all sharpen the mind and make us more able to cope with the world around us.

Why have schools at all then? If the kids can’t be taught anything for the time they are there then the schools are nothing more than day care centers.

One city’s school district would not take retired engineers to be math and science teachers. Education degrees only. The most useless degree, besides gender/ethnic studies.
How do they get to the point of taking a test to be a teacher if they can’t read?
Let me guess, shows like Captain Kangaroo and Romper Room that were on when I was a kid would seem like Masterpiece Theatre or Firing Line when considering NY public educational facilities these days.

Buffalo does it, or used to do it, regularly and the end result was screams of *Racism* because so many of a certain group of teachers failed a basic high school literacy test.
Same thing will happen here.
