Paul Ryan was interviewed by Brett Baier last night and the subject of Donald Trump being the subject of a FISA warrant requested by the Obama administration came up. The exchange gets a little convoluted at times but in the end it might be significant.
BAIER: Are you concerned, on the flip side, that the Obama administration may have been surveilling members of the Trump campaign in a pretty detailed investigation during the election?
RYAN: Well, I don’t think that’s the case. If you recall, President Obama asked the intelligence community, after the election, to canvass all the intelligence and give a report to Congress on what Russia did do and all their interactions. And in that report, nobody alleged that there a person in America, like a Trump campaign official, involved with the Russians on this. So if they would have found that you would think they would have put that in the report that they gave us in early January.
BAIER: Right, but there’s a report, June 2016, there’s a FISA request by the Obama administration Foreign Intelligence Surveillance court to monitor communications involving Donald Trump and several other campaign officials. They get turned down. And then in October they renew it and they do start a wiretap with some computer and Russian banks and it doesn’t show up anything, by reporting. Have you heard that?
RYAN: Well, again, and like I said, none of us in Congress, or anybody I know in Congress, has been presented with evidence to the contrary of what you just said.
BAIER: So you believe it to be true?
RYAN: Yes. We have seen no evidence that anybody in this campaign, or any other Americans, was in on it with the Russians to meddle in our elections. We know they meddled. Russia’s and adversary. And that’s something we have to work to counteract.
BAIER: I got it. But my point is the Obama administration was pretty aggressive and a couple of FISA requests…
RYAN: I hear your point, and what I’m saying is I’ve seen nothing of that. I’ve seen nothing come of that, that is my point.
BAIER: Okay.
In the first exchange Ryan is on his talking points. The Baier asks him about the media reports on the subject. Ryan seems to answer in the affirmative that the reports are true and then returns to his talking points about no one in the campaign being in collusion with the Russians. Baier refocuses on the FISA warrants. Ryan acknowledges Baier’s point and says “I’ve seen nothing come of that.”
I’d be the last person to guess what happens inside Trump’s mind but if we put the pieces together it seems like Ryan is acknowledging that a FISA warrant was issued based on the story of a computer in Trump Tower communicating with a Russian computer. And the target was that incident rather than Trump or his staff. If that’s the case the allegation is not as serious as one of Trump himself being the target but it still raises a lot of questions about how that warrant was obtained considering that nothing came of the investigation.
UPDATE
This is a must read that I wish I’d found before writing this.
I saw that interview and I am still wondering why some people can’t seem to give a yes or no answer. I growl in anger.
Because Ryan is part of the Deep State.
A Marxist behaving like a Marxist. Why is anyone surprised?
I saw that interview and I am still wondering why some people cant seem to give a yes or no answer.
...
Ryan hates Trump and can’t be trusted.
The article linked in your comment is a very biased look at the situation.
The media & deep state are circling their wagons but sunlight is about to shine on their deeds and the deeds of the prior administration. Its not going to be pretty but man, will it be satisfying!
Before Trump tweets he is usually on very solid ground and this case doesn’t appear to be an exception (FIA). Clearly the administration was on a witch hunt and clearly they changed the rules to facilitate leaks as part of their campaign to destabilize the Trump presidency.
Sedition has consequences.
Paul Ryan is a finger in the wind NWO globalist, he sees himself on the fast track to the White House as soon as ‘his turn’ comes around,
He will rely on the same evil deep-state apparatchik that sought to install Hillary to install him when the time comes,
President Trump is at best a wild card interrupting and at worst dismantling these plans,
President Trump must never trust this gutless weasel and America must never forget what he is,
Not that I'm a Ryan supporter, but anything involving the FISA court is classified and Ryan had to dance around probing questions from Baier. Being a news person, Baier would like nothing better than to get some juicy classified info out of Ryan. Hence, the lack of "Yes" and "No" answers from top Washington pols involved with these topics.
Of course, that doesn't even touch upon the controversial nature of the FISA court to begin with.
The Sanchez article is interesting and fair minded.
I don’t think he assumes to know anything. It does seem he thinks no one else (MSM) really knows anything.
He doesn’t appear to be on one side or the other.
He explains that some things are not new.
He is questioning phraseology used in articles and lack of support to back up assertions and allegations.
A food for thought article.
Thanks for finding it.
Exactly. I was struck by Ryan's statement We know they meddled. Russias and adversary. And thats something we have to work to counteract.
Well if they didn't meddle effectively then why to we have to work to counteract it? I mean, yeah you watch it, and make sure nothing really serious gets going. But this sounds like Ryan has jumped on the bandwagon to stay on this Russian distraction rather than getting on with getting on with revoking Obamacare, even if this stooge cannot figure out a reasonable alternative [nothing is a reasonable alternative, start there and see if you can do better, though I personally believe in letting a free market solve it].
The four people were Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.
The Russian bank was communicating with its landlord ... AND PAYING RENT.
He didn't have to dance. He could've just stated that the information was classified and he couldn't discuss it.
I think President Trump holds the trump card. The use of the intelligence apparatus to find allegations against a political opponent goes beyond Watergate and into a police state. The leaks of intelligence is the same thing. And the attempt to portray the Trump Campaign in collusion with the Russians is all tied into the same effort. President Trump will play this card starting Monday. It will destroy for once and for all the Russian allegation campaign and nail Obama for his use of intelligence to defeat a political opponent.
hope you are right - that it is rope-a-dope rather than backpedaling defense.
Ryan has been nothing but a sack of bricks, a weight which DJT must carry around. One must ask why continue to do so? Pence, Reince, who?
The press seems shocked that this is true. They seem to forget Obama wiretapping a member of the press and also members of Congress.
Ryan admitted to Obama wire tapping of the Trump Campaign but blew it off because nothing was found from that spying.
What a load of horse dung.
