How did ISLAM lead to the DARK AGES, then RENAISSANCE & REFORMATION?

Caliph Umar fought alongside of Mohammed in nearly all his battles.

Umar's daughter Hafsa was one of Mohammed's wives.

Waging jihad, Umar conquered enormous areas, including:

-Eastern Roman Empire -Mesopotamia, -parts of Persia, -Egypt, -Palestine, -Syria, -North Africa, -Armenia, -Anatolia -Damascus, and -Jerusalem.

Muslim pirates terrorized the Mediterranean, blockading trade.

This caused an economic disaster in Roman Europe by diminishing products moving from North Africa and the Middle East to Rome.

An important item no longer shipped was papyrus -- reeds from the Nile delta which were used for paper in Europe.

The sudden shortage of paper resulted in a decline of writing, literacy, and fewer books being written. This was a key factor in the beginning of THE DARK AGES.

The world's largest and oldest library was in Alexandria, Egypt.

Accounts were given by:

-Persian traveler Abd-Al-Latif of Baghdad (1162-1231),

-Jamal Ad-din Al-Kufti (1169-1248), and

-Syrian prelate Bar Hebraeus (1226-1286)

that when Caliph Omar was asked in 642 AD what to do with the books in the library, he told his commander Amr bin al-Ass:

"Touching the books you mention, if what is written in them agrees with the Qur'an, they are not required; if it disagrees, they are not desired. Destroy them therefore."

The account continued that the library books were burned to heat the city's bath-houses for six months.

Other libraries in Babylon, Syria and Greece met similar fates.

Islam helped bring about the “dark ages”. Christianity led to the Renaissance.

I don’t care how. It’s a savage death cult. Its members have to be kept out of this country.

Required reading to understand the war we are in:

A short item that gives you the flavor of

Mohammed-Charlemagne-Revisited

and then if you really want to undestand it all, there's this:

The Koran

After or al0ong side (is best) read the Hadiths and Sunnahs from these authorized holy books to understand what is meant in the sura you just read:Talibari, Muslim, Isaq and Bukhari. Otherwise, you are just guessing; the koran is not like the Bible as it takes four other books to understand what the first says.

“Christianity led to the Renaissance”

Christianity provided the Crusades to fight back against the muslim expansion.

It was capitalism that brought about the renaissance in Italy through their “modernized” banking.

My suggesstion would be if you don't want to read all the Hadiths , I would first read Bukhari, and then read Muslim, and you certainly would understand the fundamentals of Islam.

In line with this thread I would recommend reading William J Federers book - "What every American needs to know about the Koran" -Tom

Islam is a cancer upon humanity and has been for 1400 years.

Someday, the world will be obligated to cut that cancer out.

Nuking Mecca would be a fine start.

Dark ages were on long before Islam began.
Italy, for instance, was sacked over and over, ruined and depopulated by multiple German invasions and Byzantine counter-invasions when Mohammed was a baby.

Islam did not ‘help’ bring about the ‘Dark Ages’ - it caused them.

Mohammad and his Disciples (aka, the Varsity) conquered all of North Africa (which had been the grain basket to the rest of the word), stripped all the vegetation using vast herds of goats, turning it into semi-arid desert we see today; conquered the mid-east and Persia; pushed into modern Turkey, Spain, France, Greece before being repelled; along the way they destroyed everything which was not mentioned in the koran, and everything which was as superfluous.

When they had finished Classical Wester Civilization was destroyed, as was Classical Christianity. Most of the works authored by Greeks and Romans were burned with only a few surviving mostly in monasteries untouched by the devastation. They were also responsible for the destruction of what remained of the Library of Alexander after the Romans accidentally torched the place.

Last but not least the Varsity introduced the slave trade - not the sort practiced by the Greek or Romans - but people as property to be bought sold on whims and used for any purpose. This became the big business of the period - Europeans et al pilled into the lucrative trade of selling young boys and blond girls into sexual slavery in various harems. This took almost exactly 100 years. (We are, by some estimates, into the same period by 25 years of so with another 75 to go unless Islam is totally destroyed).

The Koran is difficult to keep reading to the end because it is so damned repetitious. It could be condensed into a hundred or fewer pages pretty easily, maybe 50.

North Africa was first taken by the Vandals and other barbarian tribes from Europe around the same time as Rome itself. Their rule was so poor that the North African subject populations practically welcomed the outside invader that was Islam.

It grew from scholasticism, a consequence of the application of its ideas and methods. And from study of Roman and Greek texts copied by the Carolingian protected Church.

Why the Arabic World Turned Away from Science
http://www.thenewatlantis.com/publications/why-the-arabic-world-turned-away-from-science

The Muslim world takes credit for the science done by civilizations it conquered, the minor flowering of ideas as the invasion led to interaction between cultures, and denies responsibility for its religiously inculcated fatalism and threat of murder if your research and reasoning was contradictory to Islamic doctrine suppressing science in every way.

There is more than writing attributed to the Renaissance. The Church did a lot to preserve, but did not provide study for painting, music, or architecture, all of which went to new heights in this time. The Church did provide patronage (money). The contrast between Renaissance and Middle Age art is dramatic.

The Italian artists kicking off this era could only exist under the great economic conditions created by Italian Mercantilism. The great economy also allowed for larger coffers in the Church to supply their patronage.

The Dark Ages were not as dark thanks to the Church, and much of our knowledge of that time comes from their faithful efforts to preserve.

But no religion has been, in and of itself, the cause of economic prosperity, which is the underlying foundation for the Renaissance and its newly developed “middle class”.

After all, economic prosperity is temporal in nature. The Renaissance did not begin in Italy because that’s where the Pope was, it’s because that’s where capitalism began.

the vandals practiced a form of christianity called arian christianity. constantine anathematized it at the council of nicea in 325 AD but it persisted anyway especially in north africa and the middle east. its said that muhammad’s encounter with christianity in jerusalem was with arian christianity. the view of Jesus that the arians had is not dissimilar to that of Islam. that jesus is a great good man but just a man. therefor the Vandals did not have great theological difference s with their conquering armies of Islam. Similarly it was the arian bishops of spain that invited the moors into spain. Today’s liberal churches in europe and america are also welcoming of the moslems because they have the same low view of christ that Islam has.
