The president gets to live there, but the White House actually belongs to the American people and starting March 7, they can start to take tours for the first time during Donald Trump's presidency.
First lady Melania Trump said in a statement Tuesday she's looking forward to welcoming visitors.
"I am excited to reopen the White House to the hundreds of thousands of visitors who come each year. The White House is a remarkable and historic site and we are excited to share its beauty and history. I am committed to the restoration and preservation of our Nation's most recognizable landmark," she said....

If that is all Trump did his entire Presidency he’d still be a better President than Obama.
I’ve never been to the White House. Now that we have President Trump, and obola is gone, I’ll have to plan a trip.
This is a pretty snarky article; but I commend the First Lady.
Taking care of the home, and hospitably welcoming visitors, is an important duty of the lady of ANY house.

That means they're going to make it the Peoples House AGAIN.
I think she’s channeling Jackie Kennedy...who did a wonderful job of restoring the decor of the White House, which had fallen down.
I think she’s her own person. Our comparison to Jackie is our shortcoming.
The White House was gutted and completely rebuilt from the inside-out only eight years prior to the Kennedys living there, during the Truman administration.

Yes. I think Melania will make changes in the White House just as Jackie did. Jackie brought history into the décor, and I believe that Melania will do the same.
President Trump has allowed the world into the Oval Office and the White House in these first weeks of his presidency with his videos, pictures, and websites. He truly wants this to be the People’s house and government for a change.
I never understood the comparison. Jackie was a privileged east coaster. For all intents and purposes, it was probably an arranged marriage in the old tradition.
Of course she’s her own person. But instead of trying to dictate how our kids eat, or something equally out of her realm, she seems to be starting out doing something that makes sense for an unelected public figure who finds herself as First Lady.
(And if you don’t think she has Mrs. Kennedy in mind as she determines her conduct and image, you don’t remember.)
During her time as First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy was always dignified, unobtrusive, and concentrated on things that were appropriate for a First Lady, instead of sticking her nose into politics.
I’m talking about decor, and her enormous efforts to acquire donations of important antique furnishings, paintings, etc.
I agree with you absolutely.
I'm 73....and remember her. She never appealed to me and her voice drove me crazy.
Well, I think we’re discussing her conduct and activities as First Lady; not how she got there.
I’m not going to disregard all of the good work that Mrs. Kennedy did in refurbishing the interior of the White House, simply because she was a ‘privileged East Coaster’.
I’m certain Melania knows plenty about many First Ladies. You aren’t giving her credit for brushing-up on her job or doing any background research ;-)
The ‘voice’ was something of a cultivated affectation of the time. I’m sure there are many to whom she didn’t appeal, but that doesn’t take away from her accomplishments.
Finally beauty and class will welcome White House visitors. Melania will be a hostess we deplorables can be proud of.
You’re right. Jackie Kennedy worked to make the White House rooms as historically accurate as possible. She worked to get as many of the original furniture pieces back to the White House. She managed to get quite a few items from private owners, and pursued private money donations to purchase period pieces. Say what you will about Jackie Kennedy, but she did know fashion, and she was untiring in trying to bring the history of the White House back to life. If I’m not mistaken, she had a leading role in preserving New York’s Grand Central Station, and I am under the impression that she was a behind-the-scenes supporter for the preservation of Willard’s Hotel, among other Washington buildings.
1) Glad to get OUR house back.
2) Worried about the family’s safety with the mood of the country.
Trump is already better than Clinton, Bush the Lesser, and Obama *combined*, just by opening the White House back to the people.
