In the finest Orwellian language, they claim people who sneak across the border are on a "migrant journey toward becoming legal American citizens."
Why would a lumber company get political in a Super Bowl ad? Furthermore, why would it stake out a position - celebrating illegal immigration - that cheerleads for lawbreaking?
Since the ad is obviously a PR move and not designed in any way to sell lumber, it has to have one of two motives behind it: Either the company thinks the public is generally in favor of people sneaking across the border and entering the country illegally, or the company wants to get on the right side of the most militant Trump-haters in order to guard against said Trump-haters making a target of them.
Another possibility: 84 lumber employs alot of illegal aliens.
Egad! Who buys anything from 84 Lumber? Years ago they supplied and installed the windows and doors on our high rise condo in Florida. What a catastrophe. They’re currently tied up in a lawsuit which they will lose.
In the early 60’s 84 was viable and it appears they’ve squandered it all away.
They deleted the scenes of them buying forged Social Security cards ...
America’s homes are being built by illegal immigrants. Keeping a cheap labor supply for the contractors that buy lumber makes great business sense for 84 Lumber. Calabrese gets it wrong yet again: “Since the ad is obviously a PR move and not designed in any way to sell lumber”
No, but they sell a lot of building supplies to the people that do.
One more possibility: the head of the company has a lot of authority and a huge ad budget and hates Trump. Wants to put some hurt on Trump. Orders up an ad campaign that attacks his “wall”. She doesn’t even have to really believe in illegal immigration, just have it in for Trump. You know, a man-hater.
I had no idea they were anything more than a local company
This ad gave them more free advertising than they ever had in their entire existence
But why do a Super Bowl ad and piss-off everyone? Why not just stay out of politics and ... PROMOTE YOUR PRODUCT!!!
I hope they crash and burn
Appears to be an imbecilic business decision.....I hope it costs them dearly.
I smell Soros.
Mebbe 84 Lumber should announce a policy of declining to prosecute illegals caught shopifting in their stores - as a direct way to help them on their “journey.”
This has to bae the case where some inductrious people worked their butts off, then their cream puff kids took over the business when they got old, and now the new people in charge are idiots.
LOL, excellent point.
Whatever or why the insane reason, the insane B$tch who is in charge of 86ed Lumber, did this. We don’t care. They are taking themselves out of power. Hopefully, more will destroy themselves with their hatred of Trump.
Home Depot, Lowes, Orchard and independent lumber yards across America thank her.
Many liberals seem to be self destructive at all levels.
Often, when they inherit a company, get to the CEO level, or get an elected position of power, that self destruction gene oftem goes ballistic. They can not control their mouth and emotions. So they self destruct like this B$tch did.
Glenn Beck is an example of how to destroy yourself. No he was/is not a conservative. He lied about that too.
84 lumber has a lot of locations where unlicensed contractors and illegal immigrant handyman types work and buy their materials. Their parking lot corners are gathering places for day laborers.
Do these flamin' lib morons masquerading as CEOs not think this crap pisses AMERICANS off?
Paying wages to an illegal alien is against the law. If any of the illegal aliens were paid for commercial the company violated the law.
A company celebrating illegal aliens is a company that likely hires them. They should be investigated, prosecuted if they do. Boycotted in any case.
I didn’t watch the Superbowl and just saw the 84 lumber ad on another site. I was shocked.
First, it was so blatantly emotional propaganda it was insulting. I don’t see how even people who agreed with the message couldn’t have been insulted by the simplistic emotional appeal.
Secondly, in the ad the mother and child seem like they lived in a community where they had loved ones. There didn’t appear to be any strife or reason to leave. I kept thinking the were going to meet someone they knew but they never did.
Third, a mother and daughter traveling alone safely like that through the border region would never happen. Most likely they would be in the charge of a coyote who would at the very least extract money from them (and we’ve heard worse) ... and they would not be alone, they would be in a group.
Secondly, Trump talked about a “big beautiful door” meaning there would be a legal and orderly means for immigration, not that anyone could just wander through anytime they wised. So the imagery was of Trumps “big beautiful door” but it wouldn’t open magically like that.
I’m just stunned by the whole thing. People are praising this ad when it is knee-jerk emotionalism and makes no logical sense no matter how charitably you look at it.
This gives me the same shiver up the spine as that grossly emotional Kazir Khan ad. Do people really fall for this stuff? If so, why not produce commercials showing Christian refugees being shut out by Obama after being treated horrendously in their country of origin? That is something that is really happening.
... just stunned by this ad. And in disbelief that people fall for this.
