Mexican standoff

The master dealmaker outfoxes his Mexican counterpart

Blasting President Donald Trump for his Twitter-based demands that Mexico free up the pesos needed to build a U.S.-Mexico border wall, President Enrique Peña Nieto abruptly pulled out of a planned summit with Trump.

Answering Trump in kind, the Mexican head of state tweeted midday Thursday in Spanish, “We have informed the White House that I will not attend the working meeting planned for next Tuesday with @POTUS[.]”

10% tax on all money transfers to Mexico.

I know this is a campaign promise, but really... where do we get off telling another nation they will pay for something.

I have a feeling it was a toss-out comment that snowballed and now he is comitted to it.

But the tax would pay back for all the welfare given to illeglas who came here ON INSTRUCTIONS from mexico

What’s not being reported much is that Trump said if he wasn’t willing to talk about Mexico paying for the wall, there was no point in meeting. He wasn’t so he cancelled.

I agree, and I have commented about such here before this. It isn’t Mexico who is really controlling this narrative by any means.

Right.

What’s not being reported is what Trump said:

Trump said "if Mexico wasn't willing to talk about paying for the wall, there was no point in a meeting."

Mexico wasn’t. So he cancelled.

Mexican standoff implies both sides are of equal strength. Not even close. The Mexican regime doesn’t want it’s citizens going north. It actually NEEDS a percentage of its citizenry going north or their economy would collapse like a house of cards. Illegal immigrants are a safety valve for their economy. Close it and Mexico would implode into anarchy and narco terrorism. Mexico knows we have them by the short hairs and they’re scared shitless. Well, ruling Mexican junta it’s a new day and a new script. For your own sakes, try to keep up.

Maybe this is Donald’s method of starting negotiations.
He proposed a 20% import tax on Mexican goods yesterday.
Perhaps Nieto will negotiate that down to an 11% or 14% tax instead. Nieto is in a hotseat right now. He needs to maintain this market of trade with the U.S.
I predict, he will be back in touch with Donald before the middle of March. Trump may have orchestrated this scenario just to make a big statement that conditions and expectations have now changed.

I know this is a campaign promise, but really... where do we get off telling another nation they will pay for something.

Maybe you've missed it, but you've been getting economically gang raped by Mexico for decades. Mexico is arguably the most disrespectful country on the planet and they've cost American tax payers hundreds of billions every few years.

And now you suggest the U.S. IS THE ONE OUT OF PLACE?

You're worried about telling a nation who's defecated on the U.S. for decades, that we're not supposed to demand relief, payment or reimbursement? Really?

Why are we giving Mexico foreign aid? That money alone would build a few miles of wall.
