The planet moved significantly closer to a catastrophic event this week as Donald Trump assumed the U.S. presidency, according to a new report.

The planet's Doomsday Clock is now two-and-a-half minutes to midnight, which represents a global catastrophe. It's the closest the measure has been to midnight since the successful testing of hydrogen bombs in 1953. The new position represents a 30-second lurch forward from the previous position.

A group of nuclear scientists affiliated with the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists determine when to move the clock in response to a number of threats from nuclear security to climate change.

"US News & World Report used to be the more conservative and business like of the three"

Yep. Back when I read everything political, I rated Time as the most liberal, Newsweek, still liberal but occasionally readable, US News as moderately liberal but very readable.

Like The New Republic. Leans left, but had good writers who could make an argument. The Nation? Off the charts leftist howling.

It's the closest the measure has been to midnight since the successful testing of hydrogen bombs in 1953.

That bomb assured destruction of our enemies and thus made world wide conflict less likely. When Russia had said same it increased the risk. However, both of us then had the ability to destroy all. We were both rational and thus the chance of confrontation became less. Without nuclear weapons there would have been a war in Europe between Russia and NATO.

No. Only during Republican administrations

When JFK ws elected, those imminent sighentists moved it up to 7 minutes, where it remained during the Cuban and Berlin crises

I believe I predicted this just a couple of days ago. The left doesn’t realize we know them better then they know themselves. They have no clue who we are.
