Elon Musk and Donald Trump: Politics Makes Strange Bedfellows
Canada Free Press ^ | 01/18/17 | Megan Barth

In a Trump administration, which is focused on economic prosperity, job creation, and sovereignty, Elon is going to have to shelve some of his progressive ideals that were rejected in this past election and embraced by the very people he could one day employ—-without tax-payer subsidies? Time will tell.

Trump doesn’t seem to be the right guy. He doesn’t have the sort of character that reflects well on the United States. —Elon Musk

President-elect Donald Trump has put together a strong list of appointees to serve in his new administration. Many of his appointees have been his longest and most loyal supporters of his candidacy and his vision to “Make America Great Again,” which makes his appointment of Elon Musk to a corporate advisory panel surprising and worthy of scrutiny.

Musk depends on government subsidies. He is the stereotypical crony capitalist. As a result, Trump has lots of leverage over Musk.

He is or was dating the nightmare that girl that was married to Johnny Depp. Be forewarned.

That James Packer dude dodged a bullet with Mariah Carey. Past behavior can be indicative of future behavior.

No, Musk is a hyper-productive visionary who will leverage whatever he can to achieve his goal (getting a lot of people to Mars). If there’s $billions in free money available, then of course he’s going to make use of it.

[Seriously. His goal is to establish a viable colony on Mars. To do so requires eviscerating the costs of space travel, and raising freighter-loads of cash - both of which he’s doing. If you’d come off the knee-jerk insults and take an honest look at what he’s doing, you’d see he’s actually making serious progress in several major industries - not just grabbing money and running off with it. Were he in it just for the money, he’d be lounging on a pile of cash on an island somewhere already.]

That’s right. Most people, especially here in FR have a totally wrong view of Musk. I read his biography and it was an eye opener. He’s more like Trump, a visionary AND a doer, works his butt off, as well as those of the people he hires, and he’s every bit as driven as Trump.

And like Trump he will kiss politicians asses if that will help him succeed. I think they’ll get along just fine.

By the way, whatever loans he got from the government he has repaid.

Those billions of dollars come from the taxpayers. What's the priority of getting to Mars? We are the biggest debtor nation in the world. Musk is using the same rationale as all those green energy nuts. Of course Musk and the green energy recipients of huge government subsidies donate and support Obama and the Dems.

Seriously, a viable colony on Mars is not a top priority for a country that is $20 trillion in debt and growing every day. I have followed Musk. There is no reason for the taxpayers to be funding his fantasies. Let him raise money in the private sector.

Musk wanting to put a colony on mars is NOT government-sanctioned, it is a private endeavor. Insofar as he’s getting taxpayer money to facilitate the goal, that’s because voters selected representatives who made that money available - it’s not Musk’s fault the money’s there for his taking, its our legislators’; for what he’s doing, he’d be foolish to not accept what’s being offered for exactly what he’s doing.

If you don’t want the money going to him (and AFAIK he’s paid back everything one way or another), go bitch at your legislators, not at Musk. He’s doing with that money exactly what Congress made that money available for.

“he’s every bit as driven as Trump.”

He’s MORE driven than Trump.

He’s as if Trump handled his construction ventures by absorbing massive tomes on fundamentals of construction materials, creating PayPal just to make enough money to fund what’s next (which Musk actually did), re-inventing the construction industry via giant 3D concrete printers which cut building costs by 90%, built a concrete-slurry factory with the capacity of all world concrete production, and pioneered a way to literally re-use unwanted buildings instead of demolishing them ... and on the side is in the process of revolutionizing the public transportation industry so people can get to his buildings easily & cheaply while minimizing environmental impact.

The same rationale can be used for projects like Solyndra. These political representatives benefit from the donations of the crony capitalists. This is the way the system works. Musk lobbies for the money. It is not initiated by the legislators. He applies for grants and subsidies.

If you don’t want the money going to him (and AFAIK he’s paid back everything one way or another), go bitch at your legislators, not at Musk. He’s doing with that money exactly what Congress made that money available for.

It is why this country is the world's biggest debtor. Musk is not paying back one way or another. We have the folly of his electric car, Tesla. Why should the government be involved in subsidizing it?

Elon Musk's growing empire is fueled by $4.9 billion in government subsidies

...

That’s right. He’s a guy that gets things done. He has more in common with Trump than differences. He just needs to spend some time on FR to get his politics straightened out.

Musk depends on government subsidies.

...

If he were all that dependent on subsidies I think he would have sold cars into the low end of the market where subsidies make more of a difference.

It’s an analogy.
And concrete 3D printing isn’t at a level comparable to where Musk has taken metal 3D printing for rocket engines.

You’re the one that brought up 3D concrete printing!

He’s done, and is doing, enough great things, no need for further embellishment... or you lose your credibility.
