In what some may see as an encouraging sign of intelligence being ushered in by the incoming Trump administration, U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy has been named to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
The South Carolina Republican, popular with the conservative wing of the GOP, was chair of the Select Committee on Benghazi and will now be tasked with the oversight of the United States intelligence community in his new committee.

January 13, 2017 Press Release
Washington, DC Rep. Trey Gowdy (SC-04) released the following statement after being appointed to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence:
Protecting the safety and security of our fellow citizens is the preeminent function of government. When it comes to our national security, we cannot afford to take risks. The House Intelligence Committee plays a vital role in protecting Americans both at home and abroad through conducting thorough oversight of our nations intelligence agencies. I look forward to joining the House Intelligence Committee and working with Chairman Nunes and my colleagues to ensure national security remains the top priority in the 115th Congress.
Background
This is the first time a member from South Carolina has ever been named to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
As the former Chairman of the Select Committee on Benghazi, Rep. Gowdy brings to the House Intelligence Committee experience in working directly with our nations intelligence agencies, including but not limited to, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Department of Defense (DOD), and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).

Created in 1977, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence has never had a member from South Carolina, according to the Congressional Research Service.
We have a very short time in this new trifecta - just under two years, in fact, with the new potential House coming up on reelection in mid terms. I am not going to invest my hopes and dreams in something wishfully promised as an outcome by sitting back and believing “trust us.”
It is time to DELIVER - now, right now! They need to DO it and stopping giving us some wisp of hope they’ll do the right thing. We been there done that.
Very true, we “Stand fast in the liberty by wherewith Christ has made us free...” Gal 5:1.
I was really referring to the preamble to the Constitution to secure the blessing of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.
Indeed, the author of liberty is God.
He was disappointing when handed the Benghazi hearings.
Hasn’t been reported here yet by the S’burg rag; didn’t see it on 7 News but I don’t watch much.
Gaffer is right, though: Trey Gowdy definitely needs better PR service, at least here on FR — Sarah Palin country, according to the site operator.

I guess I like Gowdy, but his rhetoric seems more aimed at saber rattling for the sake of fund-raising than actually having any sort of consequences.
Maybe that will change now. I hope so.
Oh, he’s a good talker, no doubt. However as to actually doing something, Gowdy’s about the same level of hack as the rest of the Congress.
Absolutely!
He'll do us proud... what wonderful news!!!!
As usual, a rough, tough prosecutor, just like Daryl Issa, proves that under fire, his balls become B-Bs or maybe mouse-nuts.
Typical politician, all talk, no action.
That fanatical whore should be in prison, but gowdy is too proper, too refined, too civil and in reality, too damned scared.
Time for results.
I’m with you. I like Gowdy but he has been all hat and no cattle.
Trey Gowdy= one of America’s best Senators and Prosecutors. As for Benghazi and other hearings, don’t forget the stonewalling by the Obama administration and complicity on the intelligence community and DOJ
