A left-wing Dutch vegan who campaigned against cowbells in the Swiss village where she lives has had a request for a Swiss passport thrown out after annoying the locals. Nancy Holten, who was born in the Netherlands but moved to Switzerland at the age of eight, is a fluent speaker of Swiss German and has children who are Swiss nationals.

Have to admit, I kind of like the idea of individual Swiss towns having a say in such matters. Only thing is, what prevents a foreigner from picking a lib town and getting naturalized there, then moving as a “citizen” to another canton that doesn’t like the person to start a nest of vipers there?

Have to admit the cowbell on that poor cow further down in the article is YUGE... the size of a watermelon... if that’s what they all have to wear that would be awful... but I suspect that huge one might be there to stick it in her face during the parade.

If animals like cows, pigs and chickens etc. aren’t eaten they won’t be raised and allowed to live their lives in the first place.
