A state representative from Texas has considered introducing legislation aimed at celebratory gunfire after he was struck in the head by a bullet on New Years Eve.
Armando Mando Martinez was ringing in the new year in Weslaco when, just before midnight, he kissed his wife then felt a pain in his head that he said felt like he had been hit with a sledgehammer.
As it turned out, Martinez was struck in the head by a stray .223-caliber bullet, and according to Sgt. J.P. Rodriguez with the Hidalgo County Sheriffs Office, they believe the bullet likely came from a shot that was fired into the air.
Martinez was rushed to the hospital where surgeons removed the bullet, which punctured his skull and was mere millimeters from his brain. Martinez later told reporters it was only by the grace of God that he was having a conversation about the incident.
The sheriffs office is investigating the incident and Martinez said shooting celebratory gunfire into the air is something that needs to stop.

Dumb thing shooting into the air no matter where you are.
But leave it to a 'rat politician to try and legislate common sense.

As a politician sometimes it takes getting shot in the head.
Now let’s hope that it was from an illegal invader..
It’s that darn .223 again.......
Probably from an Assault Rifle 15 (AR-15). (yeah, I know).
Micro-stamping bullet legislation coming to Texas in 3...2....1....
Or that it wasn't traveling faster.
Wouldn’t they already have a law about illegal discharge or some such?
Yeah. There should be no laws against bank robbery, because common sense should be enough to stop it.
The point, of course, is that there are a multitude of laws already banning both illegal firearm discharges and robbing banks.
But common sense isn't so common anymore, unfortunately.
Yeah I meant to write “unlawful.” If you’re on the receiving end, it might be tough to find anyone who fired the shot!
Its part of certain foreign cultures to do celebtatory gunfire. Arabs, Mexicans, African Americans. Education is the key, along with law enforcement and the media. There are already probably THOUSANDS of laws in place throughout America regatding the discharging of a firearm within city limits. Nothing else needs be done. Again, education and enforcement.
I was doing a roof inspection and found a 9 mm bullet embedded in the shingles.
Then you appreciate the damage a 9mm can do...
Armando Martinez is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives, serving since 2005.
So it’s no big deal.
Perhaps he should wear kevlar over his head, oh, and Depends.
Um, I believe that’s ‘undocumented’ discharge. Let’s try to be sensitive here...
Great! Then, you’re ready to stand against a wall while I shoot you with my Glock 19? It won’t hurt. Much.
