In Donald Trump's latest Twitter rebuke of an automaker, the president-elect threatened Toyota Motor on Thursday with a large border tax if it builds a new plant outside the U.S.
The company's shares on the Nasdaq were slightly lower in afternoon trading following the message.

In response to Trump's tweet, Toyota said in a statement that the new Mexican plant will not cut its U.S. employment, adding that it "looks forward to collaborating with the Trump administration to serve in the best interests of consumers and the automotive industry."
The threat about the Japanese automaker's planned new plant in Mexico is just the latest from Trump, who already has gone after two other automakers....

Not good enough...
For people who don’t understand how high-powered people do things, these tweets by Trump are all establishing a bargaining position.
He is staking out the ground early so it puts the other side on the defensive. Bargaining from the position of power is ALWAYS advantageous.
Trust me, there will be no tariff wars or anything else of the kind. There WILL be more jobs for Americans and less runaway capital.
And, of course, more WINNING!

Toyota just wanted some of the free publicity that Ford and Chevy are getting.

Toyota is a foreign company with manufacturing plants in the United States, as well as many other parts of the world. If they’re proposing to reduce their presence in the US in favor of manufacturing in Mexico, then importing to the US, this makes sense. If not, it doesn’t.
The Mexican facility takes over production from a closed factory in Canada. It was announced about a year ago. Other North American Corollas are built in a newer Mississippi facility.

Those late ‘80s longbed pickups were about two feet shorter than a newer Tacoma, and could haul about as much volume. Unbelievable there’s nothing like them in the US now.
