Fyodor Lukyanov is chairman of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, a Kremlin foreign-policy advisory group. Russia is displaying grace, restraint, reason and humor in this matter as Obama launches accusations against the Kremlin and inflicted retaliatory sanctions. "Russia hopes that it can ride out the storm and put relations with the U.S. on a better track once [President-elect] Trump takes office," said Fyodor Lukyanov
It is doubtful that Obama's new sanctions will amount to much more than a mild impediment and could be the likely détente between the Trump administration and Russia. It is likely that U.S. sanctions won’t deter Russia from any future cyber actions or cause it to change its policies on Syria.
In spite of Obama's symbolic sanctions to ease the pain of Clinton's failed presidential bid, Russia has neither accepted blame nor retaliated. Essentially, Putin has ignored Obama’s punitive measures. The Kremlin realizes it would be unwise to retaliate harshly and escalate the situation further since the end result would be a deepening of the rift between the US and Russia. By responding non-reactively, Putin allows more room to pursue closer cooperation between the two nations and the incoming Trump administration.
“While we reserve the right to take reciprocal measures, we’re not going to downgrade ourselves to the level of irresponsible ‘kitchen’ diplomacy,” Putin said, using a Russian idiom for unseemly bickering. “In our future steps on the way toward the restoration of Russia-United States relations, we will proceed from the policy pursued by the administration of Donald Trump.” From the New York Times.
At a time when Barrack Obama is Down-low, Vladimir Putin has gone Up-high. Russia is demonstrating a warm act of hospitality and seasonal good will towards their American guests. Despite the US expelling Russia's 35 diplomats with short evacuation notice, Vladimir Putin has sent a special invitation.
Mr. Putin has invited all the children of American diplomats in Russia to celebrate New Years and Christmas parties in the Kremlin! For decades, the Kremlin has hosted a series of parties for children in December and January. The series of parties and special events culminate with the celebration of Russian Orthodox Christmas. While these special functions are usually limited to Russian children, Mr. Putin has now extended invitations to the Americans. In keeping with the Gregorian Calendar, Orthodox Christmas is a national holiday in Russia so banks and public offices will be closed on January 7, 2017. These words once echoed from the White House, "When they go low, we go high," now they belong with the Kremlin.

Putin, while having much different aims than that US, is not a stupid person. He correctly views “stompy-foot” as damaged goods and halfway up the aisle toward the exit. A new leadership will convene three weeks hence and cooler heads will prevail.
Obama continues to lay down depth charges in his wake, but both the US Trump and the Red October and able to deftly avoid suck moves of petulance. Seeing his “legacy” reaching the terminus of its exordium, he is ready to enact scorched earth to make things difficult for President Trump. But like the well fired set by Saddam Hussein, there’s plenty of time to clean up his mischief.
His end game lies bare the true person beneath.
