In what the NRA is calling "Obama's attempt to implement the largest gun grab in American history," senior citizen veterans on Social Security very well may have their Constitutional right to own guns stripped from them. Approximately 177,000 military veterans have been snared by this gun grab already as the VA has implemented a program which prohibits vets owning a firearm if they collect Social Security and have a "representative payee assigned to their accounts to help them manage their payments and receipts."
By this method, the Obama federal bureaucracy will effectively implement just what the US Supreme Court decision in the McDonald v. City of Chicago prohibits! An Army vet, Otis McDonald will go down in history as the senior citizen who stood up to the Chicago machine to bring down the city’s 30 year gun ban. When gangs and drug dealers prompted constant fear in his Morgan Park, Chicago neighborhood, the 76 year old son of Louisiana sharecroppers joined with three other plaintiffs to sue the Windy City which had adopted the toughest gun laws in the country. Richard Pearson, CEO of the Illinois' Rifle Association, highly praised Mr. McDonald for his courage in the successful fight that saw the US Supreme Court say NO to decades of unconstitutional legislation from Chicago’s corrupt political bosses.
An interview with Mr. McDonald's widow by Chicago Tribune reporter Dahleen Glanton brought up an even deeper reason for the senior citizen's legal quest. I once rode along on a boat ride across Cook Inlet out of Anchorage. I realized that I was not given a life vest to wear. After the trip, I mentioned something to the skipper. His response - "The water here is so cold one way or another you are going to be dead in 5 minutes anyway."
