The woman's window was in line with the shooter and the vehicle he was shooting at. The video shows where the shot was fired from, and where it went.
BONNEY LAKE, Wash. Authorities say a woman was killed after she was hit by a stray bullet fired into her bedroom by a man who was aiming at his car, which had just been stolen. The shooter is cooperating with police. We do not have the full story yet. There may be more to it than his mother knows. Neighbors say they heard as many as ten shots.
The News Tribune reports Pierce County Sheriff's deputies received multiple calls between 11:10 and 11:25 p.m. Thursday from people who said they heard at least 10 gunshots in Bonney Lake. Shortly afterward, a woman called 911 to report her son's Jeep was stolen. She said he fired shots from a handgun before chasing after the car.
When you turn one loose, it is yours for ever and what it does is your responsibility. Be conscious of down range past the target. Sometimes bullets seem magic.... how did it get through 100 yards of woods and hit that house 1/2 mile away? You shot it... its yours... the bullet and what it destroys.
Situational awareness and a sharp mind/eyes are helpful. Not all “oopsies” are totally preventable if one has an actual need to defend oneself but most “casual” accidents can be totally eliminated.
Are police treated the same if one of their shots goes awry?
It would be useless to state the obvious again in terms of how terrible it is for all involved.
IMHO common-sense and self-discipline most be practiced daily, like any activity; sports, music etc. Like a bat or a guitar necessary for the fore mentioned activities, it is by the nature of man you need too, and should be able to defend yourself by whatever means necessary. I fully support the 2nd.
Keeping the efficiency equation in mind, excessive force is a waste and obviously dangerous (this case).
I mean really, there is a narrow window of say, time, in this situation; in which shooting at a moving vehicle is viable option. From a shooter standpoint, quickly there is no clear shot. The vehicle is not the target and unless the shooter has a ‘BFG’ the shooter most likely will not stop the car. Obviously training and practice with self discipline are important.
Also I have a feeling there is more to this story.
