The Regency Beauty Institute has closed after more than 50 years of educating cosmetology students.

The institute announced on its website that it permanently closed on Wednesday, impacting all 79 campuses, including the Miami Twp. campus at 2040 Miamisburg Centerville Road.

“This is incredibly difficult news for everyone affected: especially our students, teachers, and staff,” Regency’s website says. “We recognize that some of you may be finding this out for the first time by reading this. We are truly sorry for the abrupt nature of this information.”

The institute said that it does not have the money to continue to run the business.

“There are multiple intertwined reasons: declining numbers of cosmetology students nationwide, a negative characterization of for-profit education by regulators and politicians that continues to worsen and, in light of these factors, an inability to obtain continued financing,” the website says.

The institute said it is not being forced to close because of wrongdoing.

“We held ourselves to high educational and ethical standards,” the website says. “The environment is simply not one that allows us to remain open. We diligently explored a range of strategic options that would benefit our students, teachers, and staff — and allow us to remain open. Unfortunately, those efforts were not successful.”

There will be no tours and no guest services, the website says.

Students will be able to return to the schools to pick up personal items from 3-5 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Schools will not be open at any other time.

More information for students can be found here.

Earlier this month, another beauty school, Carousel Beauty Colleges, announced it was closing all five of its area locations.

There has to be more to this story than they are sharing with the public...

I dressed hair for 42 years...went to CLEVELAND ACADEMY OF COSMETOLOGY...operated by a family, named TITUS...Two sons were teachers, parents ran the office, treated everyone like family...One son Mr. Vincent was a master stylist and owned salons, and the other was an Attorney and he taught our Law class for those taking the managers course. Loved every day I went there...was located on Euclid Ave. Downtown Cleveland..

Was a wonderful career at one time, met life long friends. still miss working...but age sets in and one knows when it is time to QUIT...

Was sad to read this article...
