The Democratic Party has become something both JFK and RFK would deplorethe party of war.
I was a Democrat all my life. I came to Washington to serve President John Kennedy and Attorney General Robert Kennedy. When the president was murdered and his brother struck off on his own, I joined his Senate campaign and staff as his legislative assistant and speechwriter, until his presidential campaign ended with his own assassination. I ran on a (losing) Democratic ticket in the New York state elections of 1970. When I was working to enact my own program of police reform in the 1980s and 1990s, then-Governor Bill Clinton was chairman of my National Committee for the Police Corps.
This year, I will vote to elect Donald Trump as president of the United States.
I'm not sure about JFK being a peace candidate, though. He was quite the hardline Cold Warrior (as Bobby was until Johnson took over).
There's also a rebuttal on the site from Peter Edelman, another Kennedy guy, who's wife was Hillary's mentor in her early years.
The Democratic Party has become something both JFK and RFK would deplorethe party of war.
The guy is awfully verbose, but does make some important points amidst it all.
There’s a Verboose on the loose!
I don’t know enough about RFK, but If JFK were alive today he would be a staunch supporter of Trump.
JFK hated Communism, devised sensible tax policies and despised the corrupt political establishment. The extreme Marxism the Dummycrats and the corrupt Uniparty cartel would repulse him.
The Kennedys and the Democrat party they knew bears no resemblance to the socialist cesspool of today.
Wilansky seems most concerned about relations with Russia, and on that, Wilansky sounds like Stephen F. Cohen, the retired Russian expert who is often on the John Batchelor radio show (WABC).
Cohen is married to “The Nation” editor Katrina vanden Heuvel, so I assume he’s not a conservative, but he is so appalled at the Obama and foreign policy establishment’s Russian policy, that it wouldn’t surprise me if he also were for Trump.
As for JFK being a peace warrior, I don’t buy it either.
Good article,
Now Trump is like JFK, Lincoln, Thatcher, Reagan, Churchill... and now RFK.
Trump hasn’t let anyone stampede him into threatening war with Russia. Half the Repubs and half the Dems kept trying to prove their manhood by threatening to go to war with Russia.
Didn’t bother reading the article but went over to see the comments. Madder than a bunch of wet cats.
A Rat got us into WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. They have long been the party of war.
Yeah, my father surprised me when I was a young boy by actually saying something positive about Kennedy: He said, whatever else (i.e., bad) you could say about the man, he is a patriot.
I never forgot that.
Donald Trump is a patriot.
We could do a lot worse.
We have done a lot worse... since Ronald Reagan left office.
Different time, the Cold War. As you may know one of the big issues in the 1960 campaign was the so called missle gap between the US and Russia, Russia having more missiles. The joke was there was no missile gap, we had the advantage.
After the JFK was killed Bobby made a huge transition and became a super liberal. JFK was then or could be today called a left wing liberal President. Center Right possibly.
At least, Adam Walinsky knows that Donald Trump is an American Patriot, an America First, always and forever.
I wonder about how many professional Democrats are going to be endorsing Hillary publicly but voting against Hillary and for trump in secret because they are afraid to cross the party and embarrassed by the fact they don’t think Hillary is a good presidential choice.
