The old saying "the proof is in the pudding" isn't a bad bit of wisdom. That's why the advice to go see for yourself has borne up over the years.
Such it was over the entire Labor Day weekend, as we drove through southern Ohio on a series of jaunts that took us through Fayette, Clinton, Highland, Adams, Clermont, Brown, and Hamilton counties along some of their major and minor highways.
What I saw over the weekend really struck me. First, I saw that the hesitation to put up signs in support of Trump has apparently become passé . I saw lots of Trump signs, and some places had multiple Trump signs.
In that entire time, I saw ONE Clinton sign and that was in a yuppie neighborhood in northeast Hamilton County. Even in Hamilton, though, the Trump signs were evident.
I do believe the shoe is now on the other foot and people truly are embarrassed to admit that they support the totally, obviously corrupt Hillary Clinton for the presidency. The common folk, though, are showing off their support for Trump.
Let me also note that I saw not a single Johnson, Stein, or McMullin(?) sign anyplace.
What does this all mean? Obviously, it's anecdotal, and it is not a scientific random sampling by any means, but we did put lots of miles on the truck, and we saw what we saw. To be honest with you, I really was struck by the absence of Clinton signs, because I distinctly recall the Obama signs from 4 and 8 years ago.
I don't think saying "it's early yet" really accounts for the absence, because the same argument would apply for the Trump signs. Besides, it isn't early. It's pretty late. The election is just about 60 days away.
So, take this in conjunction with polls showing the race close in Ohio, and Trump having a slight lead.
If true that Clinton is in a near tie with Trump in Ohio, this can only mean she has dispirited followers who are not inclined to let others know of their support for the most corrupt candidate ever to run for the presidency of the United States of America.
This is good news!
East Tennessee is covered we Trump signs, but we were never in okay anyway ;)
Trump does have the momentum right now.
They’ll create something to attack him.
Mrs. Clinton’s, “Russia spy” thing makes her look like a kook, tin-foil conspiracy theorist.
I cannot think of a single thing about Clinton that is likeable. She’s just a cold, detached person.
Algore learned that Tennessee is a hugely important state.
Trump signs in the lib part of town is encouraging.
But it begs a question that DOES NOT augur well for our nation's future: WHAT THE HELL TOOK SO LONG????
(Sent this out as email to lists and put it everywhere I could on FB)
Well done. And,yes, I pray that your "survey" IS accurate. A former fellow Buckeye from Cleveland)
Back to my current neighborhood in southern CT, there's one Crooked Hillary yard sign and the rest are all Trump signs. Not very many of them but I expect around October, they will be everywhere. I read somewhere where the Trump campaign plans to print out and deliver MILLIONS of yard signs across America by having volunteers drive around neighborhoods and asking for permission from homeowners - part of their ground game effort.
LOL, that was great.
I wasn’t here then, being a newly transplanted Mexifornia escapee. But this is home now. I’ll only leave kicking and screaming. Or if the invasion gets as bad here as what I left. But there will be few places to go to at that point.
A stroke of genius by Donald Trump to adopt that phrase. Now it is associated only with him and his campaign while at the same time it implies that the Democrats are the opposite of "Make America Great Again."
It would also be pretty hard for anybody to kick over a "Make America Great Again" sign.
I live in athens ohio and have been begging for trump signs,My local republicans office say they cant get any. What gives?
There are Trump signs all along Interstate 5 in central California. Also signs saying, “Dustbowl brought to you by the US Congress.”
also anecdotal....but I have correctly called many a state house race based upon “earned signs” ie, signs placed in the yards of voters....as opposed to “bandit signs” placed in right of way or vacant lots.
so, what you report is relevant. it really is. maybe not decisive...but very relevant.
The observers need to watch the voter counts and compare with the precinct totals. Some of these numbers where 100% of people voted for Obama were just dialed in.
I’m in Columbus, Georgia (not Ohio), and we just got ours. I would try a bigger city, and they might have a referral for you. Some PACs also seem to have signs. We pay $5 each for ours.
I was in Northeast Ohio in early June and I only saw one Hillary sign/ bumper sticker vs 5 Trump signs, bumper stickers.
I live in deep blue Alameda county Northern California and I have not seen one ( not one) Hillary sign.
My brother inlaw came home to his house and saw that the neighbor put up a hitlery sign in the front yard and thought, oh jees. Then upon closer look it was a hitlery for prison sign! lol
Saw lots of them in Baltimore County, MD this weekend.
Saw lots of them in Baltimore County, MD this weekend.
A person with a scientific mind could probably find a way to make something out of the dispersion and number of signs for this or that candidate.
But, like you, I think they are a hint about what is going on.
Maryland....that’s amazing. If Maryland is in play, then this race is over.
“Im pretty sure everyone associates Make America Great Again with Donald Trump. Do you agree with that?”
Absolutely.
