U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo's social media commentary earned her the wrath of Brazilians before she arrived in Rio. She dug a much deeper hole for herself Friday by insulting the Swedish team that had just bounced the heavily favored Americans from the tournament in a penalty shootout.
"I'm very proud of this team. But I also think we played a bunch of cowards. The best team did not win today. I think you saw American heart. You saw us give everything we had today," she told reporters. "Sweden dropped off. They didn't want to open play. They didn't want to pass the ball. They didn't want to play great soccer."
"I don't think they're going to make it far in the tournament," she added. "I think it was very cowardly."

my bad, must be this guy... Four years ago, former [University of Washington] and NFL player Jerramy Stevens was arrested for allegedly assaulting Solo. Hours later, the couple married; the charges were later dropped.
As a goalie, she should know that preventing goals is as important to scoring them.
A good coach will try to play to his team’s strength and opponent’s weakness. Clearly, that is what the Swedes did.
The real issue is that she failed in the most visible way possible, and she is looking for an excuse. It sucks being a goalie that looses in a shoot-out (as a side note, it is stupid that an elimination game can be decided by a shoot-out, but that’s soccer), and a smart goalie will keep her thoughts to herself until she calms down.
Looks like the Swedes had a better goalie.

Sweden should have won outright if not for a horrible offsides call.
She sounds like Al Gore after the 2000 Election.
The reason she called them cowards was because of the way they played the game.
To put it into perspective as if it were a hockey game, whenever the Swedes took possession of the ball, they kept “icing” it back deep into the U.S. zone instead of mounting an offensive attack..........
While there was no way they could score and win using that tactic, all they had to do was prevent the U.S. from scoring and then take the game into a shoot off. The Swedes did not play to win, they played for a 0-0 tie. It was a 90 minute waste of time........
Being the competitor that Solo is, I can’t blame her for being pissed off and saying what she did. What upsets me is the fact that none of the American sportscasters called the game for what it was and instead are piling on Hope Solo.
I’d have said a lot worse since I’m not a good loser either........
Playing "defense" by "icing" the ball, hoping for a 0-0 tie in order to take it to a shoot off isn't "smart", it's boring.
It does nothing for the sport and certainly doesn't attract new spectators who have never had their little girls playing the sport..........
The US had 27 shots only 6 were on target. Maybe you should direct your ire towards them.
Then the sport needs to adopt an "icing" penalty..........
It's apparent that Soccer is the only sport that a team will actually play to attain a 0-0 tie.........LOL!
