U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo's social media commentary earned her the wrath of Brazilians before she arrived in Rio. She dug a much deeper hole for herself Friday by insulting the Swedish team that had just bounced the heavily favored Americans from the tournament in a penalty shootout.
"I'm very proud of this team. But I also think we played a bunch of cowards. The best team did not win today. I think you saw American heart. You saw us give everything we had today," she told reporters. "Sweden dropped off. They didn't want to open play. They didn't want to pass the ball. They didn't want to play great soccer."
"I don't think they're going to make it far in the tournament," she added. "I think it was very cowardly."

Europeans are crazy.
Baseball, football, shooting sports... or nothing.
Soccer is for chicks.
Stay Classy, Hope.
That should be the last we see of that bee-otch. And what the hell was that with her changing out her gloves before the final PK?
Mind games.
Didn’t work, obviously.
Did Hope get arrested again for domestic violence?
Only a matter of time.
And the Swedish coach is the former US coach.
Well REAL soccer starts today....Go Everton!

Only one stat matters.
And Sweden should have had another goal. The call on the US goal was more questionable, but it was clear that Sweden’s goal should have been allowed.
Today we are visiting a section of The Berlin Wall then crossing to the train station to buy tickets for our beach vacation trip. :)
I’d like to watch that one.
Wow... I didn’t see the game. Stuck in the bowels of the Netherlands.
From the looks of those stats? No way the US should have lost. Somebody didn’t get the job done.
I watched the Iceland-Portugal game and would say it was one of the slowest and least enjoyable games of the Euro 2016 matches. Oddly, the prior game with Iceland....played aggressively....was one of the better games.
It’s simply a standard tactic....if you think the opposing team has a superior edge....you stall and go for a 0-0 game. On my list of five reasons why soccer will never make it into a major sports deal in the US....this tactic is one of the reasons.
I used to coach my daughters’ soccer team. Playing normal soccer with my team of misfits we kept losing. Then I found a website that did training and game styles way different than what our state soccer group did things, and taught us to do.
Once I changed my style of coaching the girl’s asked for (and got) longer practices!
We started improving greatly, fitting our style of play to the players we had. We became very heavy on the defense. It wasn’t cowardly - it was smart. In two years we went from losing most of our games to winning the local tournament - beating our arch rivals.
It was 0-0 after the game and two extra periods. And then the shoot-off. We knew that most games in the tournament ended in shoot-offs, so we practiced that a lot. We ended up winning. It was REALLY fun to see those young girls so excited and WINNING after the years of losses. I only wish I had figured out how to be a coach sooner. (I was just a dad that volunteered. I mean - how hard can it be to get an eight-year old to kick a ball!?)
I didn’t watch any of the Olympic soccer, but I’ll watch the local pro team play if it comes up. None of it comes to the excitement of watching your own 12-year old running around and making plays!
The only part of the game I saw was the final goal. My immediate exclamation based on the position of the goalie, was were do you think the kick is going, as it went to the right side of the net, and the left side of the goalie. It went exactly where it should have gone as the goalie was covering the left side looking from the field. Score for the underdog.
I definitely wouldn’t go near her.
