What you see on the news from Turkey are protesters shouting anti-American and anti-Israel slogans, but what most are not seeing are the convoys headed towards the Incirlik base where U.S. Air Force is stationed to stage a massive rally against the U.S.:
A convoy of massive numbers of vehicles headed towards Incirlik where US Air Force are stationed. It is not only demonstrators who are moving toward Incirlik Air Base in the southern Turkish city of Adana for anti-U.S. protests, but images circulating on Twitter on July 28 show convoys of Muslim Brotherhood supporters heading that way. The base houses thousands of U.S. and NATO military personnel and has served an important role in the U.S.-led coalitions aerial operations against Islamic State targets in Iraq and Syria.
Anti-U.S. sentiment has risen in Turkey following the July 15 failed coup. Many in the country have suggested the United States played a role in the attempted coup and have demanded the air base be closed. Turkeys government blames Fethullah Gulen, a powerful religious and opposition leader currently living in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania, for the attempted putsch. Ankara has demanded his extradition.
The, arguably, neither does Christianity. We want to replace all the world’s governments with a Monarchy, ruled by Christ the King.
At least that is what they would claim.
Erdogan might very well have overplayed his hand. Should the “demonstration” get out of hand NATO will have to rethink having Turkey in NATO. NATO as it is currently structured make no sense at all. An Islamic Turkey does not belong in NATO. I’d rather see Russia in NATO then Turkey. Maybe Erdogan thinks he can get away with stealing all the assets at one of NATO’s largest airbases?
If our government had any brains those nukes would have already been flown out.
They may have, but I doubt it.
The base commander has already made a formal request to evacuate the base.
That request to evacuate was denied by Defense Secretary Ash Carter an the pretext that it was too expensive to evacuate
Our troops are being set up.
Christ refuted that scenario. “My Kingdom is not of this world....”
Got a link?
Why is this thread in Bloggers & personal and not News/Activism?
Source, please? If such an attempt was in progress or already completed, would it be public knowledge? I think not.
Not that I would put it past this regime to stand them down and let the nukes be captured...
This assumes Erdogan cares about those protesters. Uh uh. He would love muzzies to see 1,000s dead by U.S. soldiers.
So here we see one mb supporter--Erdogan vs. another Obama. Could get interesting to see which terror cell wins out. Problem is we have nukes in Turkey, obama will have to finesse letting Erdogan raid our base.
That was a disaster. This has the same potential. I don't feel too good about it. I know when I was at Incirlik in 1982, I never considered the Turks to be allies at all.
Conflict News @Conflicts
BREAKNG: Akinci Air Base in Ankara, center for coup-plotters, will be closed: Turkish PM - @anadoluagency
We are the coverage better get used to that....
Would be nice if it worked that way.
If we use deadly force our guys will get court martialed and end up in jail. If we don't Isis winds up with the nukes we look pathetic to the world.Meanwhile here in the US hillary talks about student debt and healthcare....
Bottome line the regime has thought this one out well. They win either way.
Our head of the cia Brennan is a practicing muslim....
You mean, like these two A-10s parked at Incirlik?
With the one on the left, sitting there with canopy open -- just waiting for the pilot to climb in -- and, "Get some!"?
A claim that could be proven specious with little effort.
They cannot surrender. Islamic Turks will torture them. This is Benghazi redux with nukes. The Alamo. Fight to the death.
Yeah baby!
Thanks.
I agree. I went to Izmir for a NATO exercise in 1969. I flew to Istanbul on a C-130 and then took a pickup truck to Luleburgaz on the Bulgarian border. They hadn’t seen an American in years but treated me nice. I spent the days watching Soviets run intercepts with fighters across the border and nights drinking a liquor they called “tigers milk” which was really strong. On the way back to tent city at Izmir the C-130 pilot made two 360 over Ephesus. I was 24 at the time and really didn’t know the real significance of why he did that. Years later I was glad I got to see the place from the air.
