Neil Steinberg of the Chicago Sun-Times decided last week to purchase an AR-15 following the Pulse night club shooting in Orlando, Florida. His purpose, he said, was to demonstrate how simple it was and to explore Illinois gun laws concerning assault weapons.
When he bought the gun, Steinberg planned to sell it back to the store. However, his purchase was stopped by the gun store, which canceled the transaction during Illinois required 24-hour waiting period after discovering he had lied on his background check about his history of alcohol abuse and domestic violence.
In his article, Steinberg admitted that while driving to Maxon Shooters Supplies in Des Plaines, he was nervous because Id never owned a gun before, and with the horror of the Orlando massacre still echoing in his mind, even the pleasant summer day
took on a grim aspect, the sweetness of fragile life flashing by as I headed into the Valley of Death.

LOL!
One would think, right?
I think he lied about the reporter question. No reason what so ever to ask that question but it looks good on paper.
This is not Neil Steinberg first time FReeRepublic. When I was in Chicago he lived in Logan Square and was part of the movement to kick poor Hispanics out as the area west of the river gemtrified.
In Logan Square he was good friends with terrorists in the PSP-Puerto Rican Socialist party (Not to be confused with the FALN). Guns are very common in his neighborhood with both the law abiding and the law breakers.
The obvious question, if the report was true, would be how he had a FOID card with a history of domestic violence?
Alcohol abuse is a disqualifier?
I found a prior thread much more informative. From the article that accompanied it:
‘Steinberg did fill out an ATF 4473. he didnt lie on the form which asks the respondent if they have ever been *convicted* in a court of a domestic violence misdemeanor and, apparently, Steinberg wasnt convicted (even though you or I would have been convicted). He made a big deal about his arrest and his come to Jesus moment in the paper and in his book Drunkard. Because he doesnt have a conviction, he also has a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card.’

Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?I tried to find information as to whether Steinbergs wifes order of protection was actually terminated, but could not. She did, however, ask for it to be revoked.
My take from the article is that the reporter is on the wagon. As for the rest, I’m not an expert. I did enjoy the angle of the original story, though.
Paraphrasing, ‘You could legally buy the gun, but we don’t like your history of alcohol and wife abuse. Oh,and if that ruins your story, how is that our problem?’
He will be charged right along with David Gregory.
Laws are only for the little people. Politicians, journalists and celebrities are exwmpt.
Another leftist charged with domestic violence.
Drunken wifebeater lied on a federal form to buy a gun? I believe that’s a federal offense, buddy. I’d call the cops and the ATF on him.
This was an intentional attempt for a newspaper to get a story where a guy with a known record easily buys a firearm.
That simple. They sent him specifically because of his criminal record.
There’s a reason the Sun Times does not allow commenting on their articles: it allows them total impunity to publish lies and propaganda without possibility of refutation with pesky facts.

I’d suggest 11.b and h may fill the gaps on the wife beater ..... but , just a guess.
I know...but I thought that I would make the point.
Many years ago, he had a modest success with a humorous take on college pranks called "If at All Possible, Involve a Cow"
He also wrote the 'BobWatch' column for the Chicago Reader (We Read [Chicago Tribune columnist] Bob Greene So You Don't Have To). Steinberg penned the definitive takedown of the insufferable Greene for Salon Magazine when Greene's indiscretions finally caught up with him; it must be some sort of schadenfreude for Greene to see Steinberg laid low, because Steinberg was merciless to Greene.
