BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentina is celebrating a decision by a U.N. commission expanding its maritime territory in the South Atlantic Ocean by 35 percent to include the disputed Falkland islands and beyond.

The Argentine foreign ministry said Monday that its waters had increased by 0.66 million square miles (1.7 million square kilometers) and the decision will be key in its dispute with Britain over the Islands.

Oh so now the UN is the de-facto chief arbiter of national boundaries?

Argentina claims lands where not one Argentine lives and not one has ever lived.

And some dweeb in New York just redrew the map to make it so.

Just a reminder that out there are people trying to turn control of all the earth’s seas over to that dweeb in New York that no one elected, no one even knows who he is.

And why not, since the UK is an empty shell now.

The funny thing is, before the invasion, Britain was trying to give it away. I think they would still like to give it away.

From Obama’s perspective, this is payback for Britain’s colonialism in Africa.

He was raised as an anti-colonialist, all his family fed him the view that Western civilization was evil and the enemy.

It is no surprise that he acts against our best interests.

This is awful. I hope the UK ignores the ruling, and sinks a few more Argentine vessels.

What wont happen is the British repeating what they accomplished before.
The Royal Navy of today has 6 destroyers, 13 frigates, and 6 subs. That’s basically it. No carriers, no Harriers or naval air. The RAF has zero long range bombers like they used back then.
The fighters they do have can barely make a strike from the Falklands to the mainland.

The best the Brits could do today is to surround the islands with subs and isolate it, and force a standoff. But they don’t have the ability to project power anymore. They are so weak compared to cold war UK that’s its embarrassing. An effort today to simply force a stalemate would take everything they had. They would be bare everywhere else on earth, including at home.

“The Argentine foreign ministry said Monday that its waters had increased by 0.66 million square miles (1.7 million square kilometers) and the decision will be key in its dispute with Britain over the Islands.”

Once again, Argentina’s authorities are fraudulently misrepresenting the truth. The U.N. Commission explicitly excluded the Falkland Islands dispute and the Antarctic territories dispute from their deliberations and decisions. See:

With regard to the recommendations in respect of the submission made by Argentina, it is recalled that, previously, the Commission had already decided that it was not in a position to consider and qualify those parts of the submission that were subject to dispute and those parts that were related to the continental shelf appurtenant to Antarctica (see CLCS/64, paras. 76 and 77 and CLCS/76 para. 57).

This is about oil in the surrounding continental shelf areas up and down the coast. Nobody is really worried about the islands themselves today.
