The source of the statement that Ted Cruz lost followers is a
reddit article saying that Ted Cruz's followers dropped from 1.2 million to 923K

Looking at Ted Cruz's twitter page, he's at 739K followers right now. We can all check and see where he is at the end of the weekend.

That appears to be his “Senator Ted Cruz” account.
There’s another that appears to be his “Cruz for President” account showing 923K followers currently, with no major dropoff.

I'm not sure how true that is. I
follow this for Free Republic and I had @TedCruz with 865K followers as of March 1. He's currently at 925K followers which is consistent with the trend I've been seeing. I find it hard to believe he could surge to 1.2m and then drop to 923K without me noticing it because I check these constantly.
Ted Cruz also has a Twitter handle for his senate seat @SenTedCruz and that currently has 739K followers. While I don't track that one as carefully, it seems pretty consistent with what I've seen.
BTW, I'm not a Cruz supporter but I thought I'd point those facts out.
