I had to request a 1099-R form five times from a previous employer and never received it. Yes, they have my correct address.
Did my taxes using Turbo Tax and filed a form 4852 Substitute form in its place. I had all of the figures and submitted via TT and the tax return has been accepted by the IRS. Three weeks for refund distribution was indicated on the Where's My Refund site.
Today, I received the 1099-R and of course all of the numbers remain the same.
Should I leave the submitted tax form as is or should I file an amended return?
Thanks!
No records only
Not sure how I would do this????
My advice is to tell your IRS contact that he or she is a stool fingered rump swab. Tell them you aren’t going to pay them any damned taxes. Remind them that the income tax is unconstitutional. This will shame them and they will back down. Trust me, I’m an anonymous internet expert.
I have been told by my CPA that if the results don’t change, no need to file an amended return. But maybe others say differently.
I was able to file for free :)
Looks like no
Will I need to amend my return? If you receive a Form W-2, Form W-2c, or Form 1099-R after your return is filed with Form 4852, and the information differs from the information reported on your return, you must amend your return by filing Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return
If the numbers are all the same, you should be good to go. IRS got a copy of the 1099. There should be no issue.
Thanks. All of the figures remain the same so I guess I am ok. Just wanted to make sure as I can only imagine my refund getting delayed.
Keep it handy for when they ask, if they ever do.
Thank you and all others who have given me advice. I was unable to find this simple information anywhere else.
I am an Enrolled Agent.
No need to amend the return if there are no changes to the bottom line or any schedules.
Let sleeping dogs lie.
I’d file an amended return if and when the IRS asks for one. Trying to do the ‘right thing’ at this point will likely just create a big mess.
Let sleeping dogs lie.
If you should ever hear from the I.R.S. you have all the records and a good excuse and you don’t owe anything anyway.
Leave it. No big deal. Just keep it in case you get audited. The numbers are what matters.
My advise would be to hand it to your tax guy and have him handle it.
Why are you doing your taxes yourself?! Do you realize how much money you are losing by doing that? Find yourself a good tax accountant. They save you way more than they cost. You are saving nothing doing it yourself.
And instead of mucking up the boards with a vanity you can do something else far less annoying to everyone. Sorry, a bit harsh. But the vanity is really out of place.
I am not losing any money. I get a full refund.
Say what you will but the answer to my question could not be found anywhere! I trust FReepers.
“Thank you and all others who have given me advice. I was unable to find this simple information anywhere else.”
You could look through the over 74,000 pages of US tax code, and might find the answer before you die, If you’re young enough.
If there’s no change don’t monkey with it unless there are questions in the future....
