The actor brings his campaign for social change to London and talks getting ready for a political battle
It's two days since Super Tuesday, that milestone in the US presidential primary calendar and the point at which candidates truly emerge from the party fray. And everyone -- of course -- is talking about Donald Trump.
"Here's a guy who's obviously Mussolini," says the actor and Hollywood A-lister Richard Gere, who's in London to raise awareness of homelessness with a new film called Time Out of Mind. He's been on the road for the past week -- to Dublin and Glasgow, visiting homeless shelters, meeting people on the streets -- and talks with a pained weariness, as though Trump and his supporters were personally responsible for his jet lag.
"How is it possible that people would be supporting this guy? You can try to find reasons. It's about how disillusioned they are, how afraid, how confused. [Trump] is a demagogue, a clown -- but people like clarity. Here's this guy who says, 'I'm going to fix this problem for you. It doesn't matter how, I'll just take care of it'. He's finding villains everywhere and then telling people he'll get rid of them." Gere extends the dictator analogy, alluding to Trump's pledge to close borders to Muslims and build a wall between the US and Mexico....

Does this mean the gerbil loving Buddhist is not intelligent?
People who vote for Trump are not intelligent according to Gere who thinks he is more intelligent. Are actors intelligent because they are actors and stupid in real life?
Should be captioned, “Anyone missing a Goebbels”!
That towering intellect.
I betcha he came up with a Unified Field Theory.
Just ask him.
Oh stop, you damn well know Cruz and especially Rubio don’t have a chance again Hitlery. She’s got the media, the Democrats and the GOP-E siding with her. The ONLY thing that can beat that bitch is a pitbull with absolutely no fear and that pitbull is Trump. Sorry, but to me that is the only option. Either we get another 8 year Clinton political Holocaust - which in my opinion this country cannot survive - or we get the guy who is obsessed with winning. Why is there even an argument there?
It is highly arrogant and elitist to make comments about who is intelligent and who is not, based on whether or not they agree with what you think. It is also incredibly hypocritical to identify yourself as a liberal who cares about the downtrodden etc., and then divide people into ‘the intelligent’ and the ‘not intelligent’. Sad.
Within 5 Posts, the Gerbil Awakes !!
Thread Winner !!!!
Just another Hollyweirder leftist— blah-blah-— go back to kissing Barry’s butt Gearhead.
Sounds like a low energy person.
Well said!!!
Gere is a progressive partisan who was promoting Obama on a September 2008 show of The View.
So gere thinks he’s one of the intelligence?
This coming from a guy who has rumors dogging him about gerbils. And who is the stupid one again?
You guys are slacking. It got to post 8 before someone mentioned his gerbil.
How does this actor Gere know that Trump will be Mussolini and become a dictator? There is no evidence. People who call Trump a clown do so only while sharing their ignorance with the country. Trump has reasons for saying what he says, and some of them are to save money. That is the kind of man I want to have influence over our economy. I want someone who hasn’t been feeding off the public teat for decades. He’s used the media to save a ton in campaign funds. The others waste so much on those stupid commercials.
Richard Here = F.A.G.
Hide the gerbils.
Can’t somebody give Gere a costume to wear and write some words for him to say?
Gere is into all things China, IIRC. I don’t think they like him anymore, though.
Gere has no understanding of Buddhism. He's just glomming onto superficial traits of other people's cultures because they're quaint.
The Dalai Lama himself has warned Westerners that Tibetan Buddhism (like most of the other branches) is a mixture of core Buddhism and local culture, and that simply aping the local culture part is of little value.
