Whether it’s him or someone else that gets nominated is irrelevant. Romney just laid bare that at this point, the GOPe wants you to vote for anyone but Trump so he can’t get the delegates he needs to avoid a brokered convention.

He just admitted that every vote for Cruz and Rubio is a wasted vote: they simply want to deny Trump the delegates and install one of their puppets at the convention.

It’s up to everyone to vote their conscience going forward. I hope people do the right thing.

Yes, because third time’s the charm, or something....

Neither William Jennings Bryan nor Harold Stassen were available for comment.

So the only reason we're not all flocking to the 'electable' Establishment GOPe candidate is because they haven't shown us the right Democrat-in-drag pile of soupy mush that looks great on TV but doesn't actually stand for anything in particular and will 'get things done' by continually capitulating to the ever-leftward veering Democrat Party.

Is that about right?

Of course he is. He was under a rock, and all of a sudden, he’s on the other side of that rock. Not a coincidence.

Romney is under pressure by the GOPe just like all the other politicians who have suddenly endorese Rubot.

What the GOPe is trying to do is convince Trump supporters that supporting Trump is futile. They are trying to convince us that they will do anything from changing the rules and brokering the convention to forming their own third party. They want us to go ahead and vote for their candidate, because we think any thing else isn’t going to happen.

Romney might actually be hoping for a brokered convention and to be drafted at it. But it’s not going to happen. Trump is going to go to the convention with enough support that there is really nothing the GOPe can do.

So the people running for the Republican nomination were required to sign a loyalty document promising to support the Republican nominee and not to start a 3rd party run. But it looks like Romney may be doing both.!

Romney is trying to set himself up as the white knight to save the GOP. He is positioning himself to be drafted.

I think he's expecting a big uprising of people pleading for him to enter in the race. He's an idiot.

Mitt always reminds me of a Palm Springs antique store owner.

Romney pretty much said for voters to deny him individual states so he will not have the nomination on the first vote.

“Is Romney throwing his hat in the ring?”

No, he is throwing his hat into the outhouse pit.

... There’s something
I must say out loud
You’re once, twice
Three times a loser
Yes you’re once twice
Three times a loser ...

With apologies to The Commodores

If Trump goes 3rd party, the Republicans will not only lose the presidency but the senate and house to boot.

Yes to your comments, but I believe the only thing that would induce Romney to do this is the promise that he is going to be anointed at the convention. He does not need money and I doubt they have something on him that would do this.

You might be right about that.

Would Romney do it for a VP or Cabinet position?

Romney is 68. The clock is ticking.

He doesn't want to run, though...

Romney NEVER wants to run for president. He wouldn't mind being president, but he doesn't want to be bothered to run for the office. We saw that back in 2012. even after the nomination, Romney seemed disinterested in gathering votes or convincing people.

It is astounding that there is even the slightest chance that this might happen again.

All Trump has to do is win a simple majority of delegates and there is nothing anyone can do to take away the nomination. For the guy who’s gonna win so much we’ll all get tired of winning and whose going to trounce Hillary in the general, winning 51% of Republican delegates should be a cake walk, right? Or have we all been misinformed?
