One of the most spectacular discoveries of the 20th century was that the Universe itself was expanding. When Einstein put forth his general theory of relativity, he swiftly recognized that there was a consequence he was unhappy about: a Universe that was filled with matter in all directions would be unstable against gravitational collapse. Einsteinâs fix for this was to make up an invisible, outward-pushing force that prevented this collapse from occurring, a cosmological constant. But if you didnât include this cosmological constant, others soon realized, youâd wind up with a Universe that wasnât static in time, but where the fabric of space itself was either expanding or contracting with time.

A better question is what good does any of this celestial knowledge do? Its not like humans could ever even reach the nearest star let alone travel the milky way. It ain’t ever gong to happen so why even bother? The physics and human life span will not allow it.
This guy does it all the time...
Turtles. It us turtles all the way out.
Who?
That’s pretty good. The fish-water analogy is excellent. I think the direct spiritual experience is actually easier than the mathematical route though. It just seems harder because the required steps don’t follow a logical dot-to-dot connecting path. Sticking with the process is more frustrating.
Another big difference is that a mathematical proof can be shared with others who didn’t work it out for themselves. The direct spiritual experience can be alluded to but can’t really be shared.
The universe is expanding into my sock drawer and if
it doesn’t stop I’m going to make it expand into yours.
Exactly and a void must itself be surrounded by something that is not void.
The end of the beginning.
The expansion and the speed of the expansion is independent of the speed of the components. The components have a greater universe to go in lesser speeds until the lose all relationship with each other.
Ummm, don't know how quite to respond. You may have pulled off a one-word double entendre my friend :)
That’s exactly what happened with me and my father! Only it was a few years before you.
That is not true, if the a swer to my question can mathematically answered then Star Travel wil be possible.
I often wonder about this. Does the expanding universe create
space as it goes, or does it expand in to existing space?
Heavy thoughts.
My sock drawer is a black hole. Two socks go in... But only one ever comes out.
Thinking about that makes my head hurt!
LOL.GUYS AND MY PHONE IS DEAD!
It was a joke, doc - because the poster said they wanted to get away from political talk. Nothing more ... We all know Mr. Trump is a savvy business man and golf course builder.
So if the universe is expanding in an accelerating or exponential fashion, how does that affect time? Is it possible that time is not linear? Or maybe time is different from the boundary looking in vs us looking outward?
I’m thinking maybe retail.
