One of the most spectacular discoveries of the 20th century was that the Universe itself was expanding. When Einstein put forth his general theory of relativity, he swiftly recognized that there was a consequence he was unhappy about: a Universe that was filled with matter in all directions would be unstable against gravitational collapse. Einsteinâs fix for this was to make up an invisible, outward-pushing force that prevented this collapse from occurring, a cosmological constant. But if you didnât include this cosmological constant, others soon realized, youâd wind up with a Universe that wasnât static in time, but where the fabric of space itself was either expanding or contracting with time.

—Donald Trump’s skull. Plenty of empty space there.—
What a silly remark. He’s a billionaire businessman, and you’re probably sitting in a dirty bathrobe, trying type pithy comments. Fail!
—Whatâs on the other side of the end? —
I asked my Father that when I was about 12. He didn’t have an answer. That was in 1958, and I’m still curious.
My property, and I want compensation!
I see our universe as the equivalent of a video game or The Matrix. Nothing really exists as we perceive it. It is virtually all empty space.
And does gravity pull, or does it push? And if light is a wave, what is it using to move that wave? Is there energy packing the “space” all around us just as water packs an ocean?
If not, is it basically “something” expanding into “nothing”? Or it a foolish question as the universe is all there is? Or is our universe expanding and therefore “muscling” space from other “bubble” universes?
... which is, in itself, something.
Inflates the universe into nothingness at faster than the speed of light. Modulated by dark matter and dark energy.
My theory on how and why??? God did it.....
Hey! My bathrobe is clean!
More universe.
There was no “Big Bang.” The universe expands and contracts within a bigger universe, through spin. Spinning makes things expand. What the bigger universe is made of isn’t comprehensible to the human mind directly, because we can only sense space ourselves. It’s like asking fish what holds the water they’re swimming in - they can’t conceive of the space holding the water, because space, to them, IS water.
Same with humans and space itself. The question requires we somehow get outside of ourselves to examine what “holds” space. One way to do that is mathematics. Another way is direct spiritual experience. And so, as hard as multidimensional mathematics is, it’s easier than achieving multidimensional spiritual experiences, at least as long as we have our physical bodies. Once we drop our body at death, though, it will probably be as obvious to us as the space we can now perceive that holds the water fish swim in.
The answer is a question: What is the frequency, Kenneth?
I thought all the “scientists” were agreed that the purpose and end goal of the “big bang” was “social justice???”
It may turn back into itself. That however implies something outside itself.
My logic/philosophy professor in college warned me to stop thinking about it. I was infatuated with her. She went insane.
I married a sane, childhood sweetheart. We have been married 38 years and raised three wonderful kids and so far five grandchildren.
My Prof was correct.
agree. Forbes links are useless in an iPhone.
Maybe the Webb telescope will help - it’s scheduled launch is October of 2018. Discovery Channel had a program about it last night, worth watching.
What’s on the other side? A chicken. It finally crossed the road.
