Trump’s Not a Conservative Icon, and I Don’t Care!
Canada Free Press ^ | 02/12/16 | Jim O'Neill

We the people have responded--to the disbelief and chagrin of the elites: "We love America, we think it is great, and you can take your global utopia and shove it where the sun don't shine!" God bless America!

Trump’s no conservative an’ I don’t care. Doo-da, doo-da. Trump’s no conservative an’ I don’t care. Oh de doo-dah day. Gonna run all night; gonna run all day. Trump’s no conservative an’ I don’t care. Votin’ Trump anyway.

To the tune of “Camptown Races/Ladies,” Stephen Foster (1826-1864) (Note: also works with “Trump’s not a liberal….”)

Trump is a philosophically unmoored political opportunist who would trash the broad conservative ideological consensus within the GOP in favor of a free-floating populism with strong-man overtones.—The Editors “National Review”

I’ll support the one person the establishment hates more than Donald Trump.

Let's face it, the establishment hates them both with an undiminished passion. They realize that they cannot control either one of them and their days on the gravy train are numbered. Personally, I think we need a bulldozer to raze the establishment (Trump) this time around. After Trump rights the ship. I would like see Cruz follow (perhaps after a stint as VP).

WC Fields - now there is a conservative for you!

He also said: There are only two real ways to get ahead today - sell liquor or drink it.

Trump chose to sell it.

you want more John Roberts judges nominated to the USSC like Cruz would nominate or Clarence Thomas like Trump said he would pattern his nominee after?

But but but....he’ll build a wall!

Or....perhaps another boondoggle golf course (See: You've Been Trumped). It's all about what's best for Trump with Trump. Trump comes first with The Donald. Not America. And not Americans. Trump.

Sorry, but we've already got 'one of those' in the WH. We can ill afford yet another electoral disaster.

And Cruz is the only one running that fits that bill.

I am completely confused about the Trump phenomenon. On one hand I suspect he is the Chauncy Gardener of politics and that people read into him what they wish him to be. He says, “I’ll make America great again,” but gives us no clues on how he is to do this or any of the other grandiose ideas he espouses.

On the other hand, the only two legitimate contenders to his bid, IMHO, Cruz and Rubio, have problems of their own. Cruz has a serious electability problem, otherwise, he would be the best candidate we’ve had in a long time. Rubio has high electability in the general election, but some of his immigration comments are worrisome.

Also, considering that our country, and the entire Western World, is and has been in a state of suspended suicide, it may take a whack upside the head administered by a whackmaster like Trump to win should we have any chance of survival.

All I know for certain is that we’d better get this right, because this is the last chance we’ll ever get. Whatever our choice is, we should just pray about it and give our vote a lot of thought before we commit. One thing that would help, I believe, is that if those incapable of winning, especially Jeb, get out of the way so we can see the top three and compare them against each other.

By successful, I mean that the country is in better shape than the day he took office. In that sense Reagan was the most successful President of my lifetime.

Reagan wasn't a perfect conservative or a perfect president. IMO, that's just part of life.

It took 60 years, by my reckoning, to get us where we are now. Those who insist we can get it all back in one swing don't understand where we are or how we got here...remembering that the biggest problem wasn't that there was an Obama but that he could be elected to two terms.

Again, “better” is a matter of opinion. A full 40% of the country believe that America is better off than it was 7 years ago.

But I understand what you are saying. My issue with Donald Trump is that I don’t know if my understanding of “better” and his understanding of “better” align.

It’s not just that he wants to keep people guessing. There is an art to negotiating and the path might change dramatically on the opening move of the opposition. One must be open, alert, and flexible.

I've negotiated hundreds of deals myself and understand the concept. The problem is that this isn't a matter of dollars -- it's a matter of principle, and what he wants to do to solve the problems facing the country. He's not just playing with his own money -- he's playing with our future.

Asking a candidate what he intends to do as President and getting "I'm keeping that a secret" in response is, honestly, ridiculous. The need to "do deals" didn't stop Reagan from laying out a specific agenda. And frankly, it didn't stop Trump from laying out a fairly specific tax plan. So why can he be specific about taxes, but not about health care?

Read Sun Tzu’s classic book of military strategy, The Art of War.

I read that for the first time about 35 years ago. And it has no legitimate applicability to this issue at all.

In my opinion, most people who are demanding details just want an opportunity to criticize them and make those details the subject of discussion, rather than the big picture.

Because the details matter. Trump's big picture of "Make America Great Again" is something any Presidential candidate can say because it is devoid of substance. "I want to win". Gee, so do Bernie and Hillary. The only difference that matters is how you define winning, and what are your plans for getting there?

Look, you're willing to vote for a candidate who deliberately hides his plans so as to avoid having to discuss/defend them. I, and I suspect many others, are not.

This is good.

“His love for the United States is obvious, deep-seated, and true. I believe that he will create jobs and employment opportunities like we’ve never seen before. He can schmooze and finesse when needed, and knock heads when heads need knocking (to be adroit at both talents is somewhat rare in my experience). His courage is undeniable, his work ethic impeccable, and his moral compass strong and steadfast. Honestly, I don’t much care where Trump falls on the “Conservo-meter”—just keep kicking political correctness to the curb and speaking truth.”

Oh yikes, I added to the mess of punctuation — sorry, I can’t take the time to fix each comma, I am sorry.

FREE REPUBLIC IS LIKE AN OLD TYPEWRITER MISSING THE S AND THE E. When will this get fixed???? How hard can it be? It’s pathetic.

A full 40% of the country believe that America is better off than it was 7 years ago.

I think that illustrates my point. I'm not looking for a touchdown, I'm looking for a first down. That is how the left got us here.

If you follow what I'm saying...you have to take that 40% into account. Will Trump disappoint? Probably. If he can build the wall, get immigration under control, stab PC in the heart, and remove the fear of standing up for our own interests, I'd say that was a successful presidency.

A more realistic fear, I'd say, is that Shrillary or Bernie wins...or if Ted, that he is at best a one term president, at worst sets back conservative politics for a generation.

I agree with you. I think in Big Picture. I’m all about synthesizing info and using the sum total to make your decisions. You need to be flexible and quick thinking.

The country could use a pedantic young true Conservative senator as our President. Cruz would be a good pendulum swing after Obama. He would be stymied at every turn by the press and congress, but when he made any pronouncements or had any effect of policy or world stage, he could be trusted to choose the more constitutional choice. Political correctness would be the tool still used to keep Americans on the reservation. Cruz would be alone and fairly friendless and ineffectual and probably not have a chance at being reelected. The oligarchy would rule with an enemy in the WH as temporary figurehead. If Cruz could win the nom and the election, which both are unlikely.

Trump is older, wiser, and more powerful. He makes friends. He is magnanimous and he gets what it takes to make real, big changes. He took PC out back and burned it. No one else has. Cruz as President is good. Trump as President is better. We don’t need a conservative pedigree: we need to kill the usurping uniparty.

"A deal is when each side gets 50/50."

So how do you make deals with people who want to destroy the foundation of the country?

What parts of the Constitution do you give up?

Making deals is why our country is on its last leg.

I think you believe Reagan abandoned his principles simply to get a deal done.
