An apt comparison is actually cinematic classic Citizen Kane, a man whose vast wealth fueled an even bigger ego, an obsessive need for public adoration and, like Trump, a birthright entitlement to high elective office
Marc Fisherâs Washington Post comparison of Donald Trump to 1957s A Face in the Crowd fictional movie character Larry âLonesomeâ Rhodes, an anti-hero played brilliantly by Andy Griffith, is a superficial one at best. University of Pennsylvania Ivy Leaguer, Mr. Trump may be a showman in the vein of P.T. Barnumâa candid, uncensored, larger than life presentation style like Rhodesâbut the billionaire is no folksy hayseed or drunken jailbird. Both men ride the tide of the publicâs discontent to the height of political influence as non-politicians in the age of television, but neither âcharacterâ can be blamed for doing that.

Wrong on all counts. This describes Jeb Bush.
Kane never did anything good for anyone.
Rosebud.
The author is hung up on donnie not being a hillbilly but the examination of the character played by AG could have been played by anyone from any station in life. Him being a country hick just made the situation more crazy for the movie to have the most impact.
I agree. Donald Trump by all accounts is a normal and very decent human being. By that I mean kind and generous. He affects a larger than life persona for different reasons but appears to be not so much like that off camera. He is the antithesis of Lonesome Roads and Citizen Kane.
My firm belief is that Donald J. Trump has like the rest of us watched our country being ruined and he just finally decided he could do a better job and so he’s running for President. Frankly I believe I could do a much better job but I don’t have the money or name recognition to run or I would. So I’m voting for The Donald. I think he will do a bang up job.
âItâs all right if the town whore joins the church, but they donât let her lead the choir the first night.â
But he maybe more Huey Long; no real core convictions, just use whatever political avenue is available to obtain personal power.
One thing his life does show, he's no conservative.
