Things could get tense in South Carolina
(Newser) Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump won big in New Hampshire on Tuesday, putting their parties in uncharted territory, which the GOP establishment in particular could find tricky to navigate. Here's what analysts expect to see in the days leading up to the Nevada caucuses—which are on Feb. 20 for Democrats and Feb. 23 for Republicans—and the South Carolina primary, which happens on Feb. 20 for Republicans and Feb. 27 for Democrats.
- Race will become a big issue for the Democrats. Outside Iowa and New Hampshire, "the Democratic Party is 44% non-white," and Sanders has yet to show that he can take those votes away from Hillary Clinton, analyst Joe Trippi tells Politico. But the senator from Vermont is trying: His first campaign stop on Wednesday is breakfast with the Rev. Al Sharpton in Harlem.
- The GOP "establishment lane" will remain crowded. Even if Chris Christie's "hard thinking" leads to him dropping out, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and John Kasich are expected to keep jostling for the votes of Republicans turned off by Trump and Ted Cruz. Jeb Bush, who came close to a third-place finish in New Hampshire, told supporters Tuesday night that they had "reset things," the Hill reports.
- Trump will have to answer questions on the military. With eight military bases in South Carolina, military issues are big, meaning Trump can expect rivals to target his opposition to increasing military spending and his Vietnam-era draft deferments, the New York Times reports. "The commander-in-chief question is going to be a big one," senior Bush adviser Jim Dyke says. "If you look at exit polls from 2008 and 2012, in both elections about 25% identified as active military or had served in the military."
- John Kasich will come under attack. The Ohio governor, who said he would drop out if he performed poorly in New Hampshire, is now a target because of his second-place finish, which could test his resolve to keep his campaign positive, predicts the Washington Post. His rivals are expected to lay into his moderate positions on immigration and health care.
- There will be some GOP last stands. South Carolina is expected to finish off a few campaigns, probably including that of Carly Fiorina, who won't qualify for Saturday's Republican debate, CNN reports. Ben Carson campaign director Bob Dees, however, says there is zero chance of his guy dropping out in the weeks to come, reports the Guardian, which notes that Carson's support has nosedived amid concerns over his foreign policy knowledge and "latterly, availability of laundered clothing and ability to successfully walk on to a stage."

Sanders has yet to show that he can take those votes away from Hillary Clinton Sanders started out as a Civil Rights activist. How does Clinton have more respectability with minority voters then Sanders?

Exactly. Hillary won 15 to Bernie’s 13 delegates. She’s running the table on the super delegates, but they can change their minds. That’s 700+ votes of the 2000 needed for the nomination.
Hillary will run the table in the south. Bernie will show up with some rowdy young delegates but a nice time slot for his speech is all he will get. He should write a book and sell that while he’s still relevant.

Sanders will be replaced at the Democrat Convention with Biden/Warren.

Trump will have to answer questions on the military Nope, Trumps unabashed support for Vets makes that issue a non starter for Bush. Vets are significant portion of the military vote in SC.

Good question. But they basically do as they are told by their plantation masters who do the thinking for them.

Well thanks to Trey Gowdy and Tim Scott jumping the gun and endorsing Marco Rubio for SC its going to be a little hard for them to jump to Cruz at this point. They should have waited til after NH to endorse. Now they are in a corner as Rubio is wounded and maybe fatally. This is a big plus for Trump going into SC with the endorsement of the Lt Gov. and leading in the polls with 36%.

Yes. The NH delegate count means that EVERY VOTE DID NOT COUNT toward the real final results.
(This also includes all those Sanders voters who happened to be minorities.)

Jeb Bush, who came close to a third-place finish in New Hampshire... Interesting way to phrase it.
Yeb came close to a first-place finish as well - only a mere 4 degrees of separation to 1st.

Exactly...What was hilarious in the article was that they are celebrating Jeb’s “almost 3rd place finish” as some sort of victory. As Trump would say, “Jeb is a total loser” I don’t think the Bushes realize how truly sick the country is of all of them, W included. Maybe they just don’t care. Entitlement will do that to people.

“Sanders started out as a Civil Rights activist. How does Clinton have more respectability with minority voters then Sanders?”
I will take a stab at that.
1. Bill Clinton was the Second First Black President. Jimmy Carter was the First First Black President.
2. Sanders only has rape fantasies. Bill Clinton has the real thing.
3. Hillary she is a minority, because she is a woman (women are 51% of voters) so black people should vote for her.
4. Voters like Bill better than Sanders... see a pattern here?

Neither Scott nor Gowdy will support Cruz unless he is the last one standing against Trump. They would go to Bush or Kasich before Cruz. They are of the good ole boy GOPe network in SC.

Truth. If Donald Trump does not win he will be out. He is unwilling to spend more money on a losing cause. He is smart and will figure it out quick if he does not win. If Ted Cruz can not win South Carolina he will not win any other state. But he will stay in because he is an egomaniac and a narcissist. That is ok, if he ever gets one on one with anyone else in the field he is toast. His best hope is to go to the convention undecided because of the delegate. However, once he is there, there is no way in hell the Republican party will draft him.

The military issue will help Trump. Tired of Middle East deployments with horrible ROE and reduced benefits makes the neocons position untenable in SC.
Combat units are tired of the way things are going. If they have to go, LET THEM WIN AND COME HOME.

In a way it’s correct, it is do or die for both Cruz and Trump in South Carolina.
If Trump wins SC he probably sweeps most of the remaining states.
If Cruz wins SC he might get enough momentum to eek out a victory over Trump for the nomination.
If ANY RINO wins SC the whole race shifts dramatically and Iowa and NH wont matter one iota.
