Let’s just do an open thread.

saturday_night_gop_banner_2-5-16-1_sized-770x415xc

Who do you think won last night’s debate?

Did the GOPe take Rubio down? Or was it of his own doing, with a little help from Christie? (“There it is”)

Who is Christie taking lessons from?

christie trump

Was it Jeb!s last stand? (“I could drop my pants,” [Jeb] said in an interview. “Moon the whole crowd. Everybody would be aghast, except the press guys would never notice.”)

Why did ABC leave Dr. Carson behind? Is it because he is black?

Why did ABC leave Carly behind? Is it because she is a woman?

Who invited the anti-Trump fan club?

Who the heck is John Kasick and why does he keep showing up at these debates? (“I ought to be running in a Democrat primary.”)

Did Cruz win by default?cruz

Did I mention Rubio's Stump Speech Automatorâ„¢  got stuck? (H/T Vodka Pundit)

rubio5

“And let’s dispel once and for all with this fiction that Barack Obama doesn’t know what he’s doing. He knows exactly what he’s doing.”

UPDATE: Glori Steinem knows where the girls are; they’re lookin’ for the boys. How Progressive!

Have at it.

Trump was very strong, Christie rattled Rubio, Cruz was a bit off, Carson held is own, Jeb is boring, Kasich is a democrat.

That picture of Christie with Trump looks like Christie is doing an imitation of a hippo sending a warning, or that he might be getting ready to swallow Trump. I guess he could also be showing off some recent dental work.

Trump was Trump. As classy as Ric Flair, as cogent as as a caterpillar. And as bombastic as ever.

Cruz was Cruz. Humble when apologizing for something he had no control over. Consistent in his beliefs and views.

Rubio... Exposed hard core.

Carson has gone full pity me mode. The entrance thing, no matter the cause, was just weird. I half expected the raised fist thing. I think he may have been trying to make a statement. Trump ruined it for him.

Christie did a good job in the also tabs. Bush didn't look completely lost for a change.
Kasich didn't talk about his dad. Or I missed it because I just toon him out.

I want to say something I usually don’t say. I may have overstated Cruz’s involvement in the vote theft admittedly promoted by Steve King. I feel sorry for Ted. I think he got punked bad by his own staff but he refuses to throw them under the bus. I watched and heard his on stage apology to Dr. Carson and I am reading that he is asking for a one on one private meeting with Carson but the jury is out with Carson. I would urge that meeting be granted by Carson for two reasons. 1. I think it was unfair what the Cruz Staff did not only to Carson but to Cruz. 2. I think Carson is a good honorable man and needs to let this go with his quiet smile. I do think it distorted the vote results significantly against Carson/Trump but Cruz is far too good a man to have orchestrated this fiasco and he has been a real voice and strength in the conservative movement. Let us move on based on issues. We cannot have a conservative house divided.

1. ABC thinks identity politics, not issues or abilities or personalities. Old White male is the face of the Republican party. ABC thinks that is accurate reporting. Thus they relished making the young Cuban look bad also.

2. Rubio did it to himself. His facial expressions, body language when he was attacked showed he was not the alpha male. Rubio made excellent pro-life comments. Then he went too far and said he would rather lose. That comment lost him the possibility of unified GOPe support. They don’t care about life one way or the other. All they care about is winning the way they did in the past.

3. I think Rubio lost support. The big undecided will not go to Rubio. But nobody had a break out win. So each will pick up a small number from Rubio. The result could be that only Fiorina and Gilmore are eliminated. Kasich, Cristie, Jeb, Carson, and Rubio will all go to SC and SEC to split the establishment vote. Trump and Cruz will go on to SC and SEC to split the conservative and anti-establishment vote.

I don’t guarantee it. But I see it as a good possibility.

Thought he looked something like one would find at Sea World. Orca, the killer whale, more so than Flipper the porpoise or Skipper, the penguin.

Is there a replay of the debate anywhere? I missed the first 20 minutes and want to see the minutes before the debate when "something happened" that involved Trump and Carson offstage. What exactly happened??

They Called Carson onto the stage and he didn't hear it - that's the going story - so he waited.

Cruz came next, looked at him smiled and went out when his name was called.
Trump, never to be outdone on theatrics, stood next to Carson when his name was called.

The remaining candidates passed the top of them like “whatever guys...”. And ABC had to call for Carson and Trump a second time.

It reminded me of when I used to take my kids to Seaworld, specifically the walrus when it demanded fish from its trainer. No not saying Trump controls crispy creme.

Good assessment of which I agree.
Cruz could throw his people under the bus but he hasn’t done that which I respect. I’d really like to see Rep. King come out and say HE screwed up. Maybe he has but I haven’t seen it yet.

Carson has gone full pity me mode. The entrance thing, no matter the cause, was just weird. I half expected the raised fist thing. I think he may have been trying to make a statement. Trump ruined it for him.

When Carson stopped at the edge of the stage and did not walk out to the podium, I first thought this was some kind of weird tactic that he would explain once he got out there. When Trump then stood next to him and also did not go out on stage, I thought, okay, he's in on it, too. I now think that Carson was just confused, and Trump stood with him to keep him from looking foolish. Then Kasich did the same thing. I don't think this was any kind of stunt, I just think there was confusion backstage.

Carson didn’t hear his name announced, so waited awkwardly just offstage while other candidates passed him.

Trump stood by him.

Or, since Christie knows that Trump is accustomed to buying politicians with contributions, it might be a reflex so that the buyer could check the horse’s teeth before making an offer to the current owner. Christie has been a politician for a long time, remember.

Cruz tried to have it both ways in that apology last night. It backfired. CNN was body slamming Cruz with the truth right after the debate. He would have been better served to just make a short sincere apology to Carson and moved on.

Thanks guys. Cruz is a great man. He is anti-establishment and the best articulating of true conservatism I have ever heard since Reagan. His Courage in fighting obama has been unsurpassed I don’t disagree with him very often. None of these guys are perfect, to be sure. My wrath is against the GOPe that betrayed us after we took not only the House for them but then they said “give us the Senate so we can stop obama” . WE DID!! and they totally capitulated and ran. They looked like the Iraqi army fleeing Mosul.
We must have a leader that will stand up and get rid of this madness. That leader is NOT Rubio or Kasich. Those guys are Rinos with horns. Poor bush is sad to watch. But after last night, I could even like Christie. He did take on the public unions and won. He is a fighter. His staff let him down in blocking the bridge and he never threw them under that bus either. We each can support our own guy but I must stop doing that at the expense of great men trying to serve my country and the real conservative return to power. When I do that, I hurt my own candidate. So, like Cruz, I am sorry. We, in this movement, must stand together against the rino. Let them hold their nose and vote for our guy this time. No mercy. Stand together. Go Cruz/Carson/Trump/Christie. Together we can win the a nomination that is acceptable and the presidency.
