Ted Cruz wins a straw poll of NY City’s Republican Establishment elite; what does that say?

It is true that Ted Cruz won a straw poll of members of the New York City Metropolitan Republican Club.

Cruz beat Donald Trump by a single point. This raises the questions: What is the NYCMRC’s history? Is this good news for Cruz?

The NYCMRC headquarters was the setting for Michael Bloomberg’s 2005 mayoral campaign.

The Met Club (as it calls itself), proudly lists George Pataki as one of its success stories during the 2000s when its membership “swelled”, as they report, to 521 establishment Republicans. It was also the power base for State

Senator Roy Goodman’s years and years of being Mister Republican Establishment in New York City. The Met Club lists John Lindsay election as New York City’s mayor in 1965 but omits any mention of helping Lindsay when he unsurprisingly switched parties to win re-election as a Democrat.

It was the center of the New York City effort to pass the “Equal Rights Amendment” to both the Federal and New York State Constitutions. The Met was the power base for the Rockefeller Republican United States Senator Jacob Javitz; and indeed all other New York City Rockefeller Republicans.

The NYCMRC is Republican Establishment through and through and always has been. Winning the straw poll of this club is not something the “outsider” Ted Cruz should be proud of.

How can he explain the Club’s long list of Rockefeller Republicans who governed to the left of many Democrats to his supporters who demand conservative purity?

A Cruz victory among this bunch, even by one percentage point, says those portraying him as an outsider ought to rethink that assertion. The Met Club is loaded with penny loafer Lacoste golf shirt wearers who probably aren’t much different from the RINOs at Goldman Sachs.

They’re Republicans, so a plurality of them didn’t want to choose a Liberal Democrat, even though he’s a hometown boy.

Ted really screwed up doubling down on his New York Values statement at the debate. That was a massive tactical mistake. It was a "youth and inexperience" moment. Ted will have many more of those if he continues to punch above his level.

That said I won't hesitate to vote for Cruz if he is the nominee.

@realDonaldTrump has given $84K to @NYGovCuomo, who says conservatives have no place in NY because they don’t share #NewYorkValues.

Cruz should blast this non-stop. This is a massive blow to Trump’s oversized ego. Cruz beats Trump in NEW YORK. Trump is a LOSER in New York. Too perfect.

Think about what you’ve posted and what the blog piece actually is saying. Clearly “Coach” didn’t bother putting any thought into it, but you, and everyone else can.

He wants to paint these guys who voted for Cruz as “establishment”.

Maybe they are. I don’t know.

But he uses it to say, “See, see! Cruz isn’t an outsider!”

Trump came in second, lost by ONE POINT.

If that’s the standard , than Trump isn’t an outsider either by that reasoning.

I guess the good old “Coach” didn’t think of that.

The GOPe supports the candidate who took a million dollars of loans for his US Senate bid and whose wife either is on leave or left her job with GS. They must like Cruz’s NYC big-bank Wall St. indebtedness. Go figure. <^..^>

It says most members are employee’s of Goldman Sachs or Citibank.

In that case, it's not good that Trump got only one % than Cruz. Maybe it's time to support the true outsiders like Christie or Bush, who got practically zip (sarcasm):

The Results from the First Met Club Straw Poll of 2016 are as follows:
1st place: Ted Cruz 33%
2nd place: Donald J. Trump 32%
3rd place: Marco Rubio 20%
4th place: Joshn Kasich 7%
5th place: Chris Christie 3%
6th place: Jeb Bush 1%
7th place: Ben Carson 0%

Winning establishment elitist support is not good. The establishment elitists represent everything that’s wrong with the country.

Meanwhile Trump is rallying troops like no other candidate ever has.
