Gov. Andrew Cuomo claims his anti-gun law, known as the SAFE Act, is "the toughest in the nation," but on its three-year anniversary this Thursday it's looking more like a monumental failure.
The governor claims his law bans sales of military-style assault weapons. Yet today you can walk into any gun store in New York and walk out with essentially the same kind of gun he intended to ban. The industry has reacted to the law by simply redesigning the guns to avoid the features the law prohibits and which Cuomo apparently believed made them more lethal.
Worse, for those who prefer their firearms in their original design, a thriving black market has emerged with guns brought into New York from other states by aspiring small (and illegally operating) businessmen.

They also jacked up the cigarette tax and reduced tax revenues.
N.Y. is funny. :-)
Thanks for that. Hilarious. :-)
The SAFE ACT is terrible legislation. Thanks to the act I now cannot receive ammo by mail and must burn gas, pollute the air and waste time to drive across the state or to another to get some hared to find ammo.

This is what happens when you pass laws on inanimate objects to stop crimes rather than on the people committing the crimes. They didn’t lean that with the Clinton Assault Weapons Ban. They learned nothing from the Safe Act. Basically they have learned nothing. It’s not the gun, it’s the person wielding the gun. The gun is an emotionless tool that can be used for good or bad, just like a hammer or a fist.
If I ran New York, I would remove all weapons laws from the books and destroy all registration records of any kind to make it impossible to go back. I would embrace the original “shall not be infringed” concept. It isn’t any business of the government to know what I have or don’t have. It’s only their business if I miss use it. I would go after only those that violate behavioral laws such as robbery, murder, assault, etc. If the jails fill, build more and call it a jobs program. I would promote the introduction of real gun safety and marksmanship programs in schools. I would also use state funds to build and upgrade shooting ranges rather than the normal boondoggle projects like high speed trains, the “Fast Ferry” for those around Rochester, more underutilized sport or art centers, and the rest.

They have always wanted to get rid of anything military for the last fifty three years.
Back in 1962, they wanted to register ONLY HANDGUNS, and ban the import of those “evil” 5 shot bolt action Army surplus rifles, to prevent “crime”.
In reality they wanted to ban those low cost army rifles to protect their own gun industries of Winchester, Remington and Savage, so they had to “manufacture” crime statistics to try. When John Kennedy was murdered with an Italian army surplus rifle it was, to them, the icing on the cake.
Every few years the gun banners will chose something to demonize in hopes of getting a ban. Some they win, most they don’t so they keep pounding away.
In the 1930s it was Thompsons and sawed off shotguns used by criminals.
In the 1960s it was the 5 shot bolt action army surplus rifle and “Saturday night special”.
In the 1970s it was domestic manufactured handguns.
In the 1980s it was revolving shotguns and “assault rifles”.
In the 1990s it was the single shot 50 cal rifle.
And the beat goes on...
If I lived in New York, I would vote for you.
New York voters have such a short memory.
There is a very good reason that "Repeal SAFE Act" is the most popular sign in the State. Next should be "Repeal CUOMO".
Sneaky SOBs.
BTTT.
Those features do make scary black guns more lethal. If a terrorist ever barges into a restaurant and waves a gun around, the first thing I'm going to check is whether his gun has a bayonet lug or a threaded barrel. If he doesn't have that, I'm going to tell him he's not worth my time and should come back after I finish dessert.

You got my vote !
And only an idiot NY politician ( like Sti--e) would not expect this and literally laugh the thought off.
Perfect.
Correction.
New York CITY voters have such a short memory.
NYC carries the state and we Upstaters hate it.
