The currency's decline is having a pronounced effect on Canadians' grocery bills. As Bloomberg reminds us, Canada imports around 80% of its fresh fruits and vegetables. When the loonie slides, prices for those good soar. "With lower-income households tending to spend a larger portion of income on food, this side effect of a soft currency brings them the most acute stress," Bloomberg continues.
Of course with the layoffs piling up, you can expect more households to fall into the "lower-income" category where they will have to struggle to afford things like $3 cucumbers, $8 cauliflower, and $15 Frosted Flakes. Have a look at the following tweets which underscore just how bad it is in Canada's grocery aisles

Preppers’ PING!!
But isn’t that prime minister of theirs so dreamy though???
Don’t worry they have a socialist leader. /s
What a sad tale that is. I feel sorry for all our decent Canadian kin who are saddled with the twerp.
Yes, but they have free healthcare! /s
But they have Free healthcare!
It was a BYOM event for democRATs. (Bring Your Own Muslim)
The gimmiedats and Government unions worked to get the socialist in power.
Hope they now understand nothing is free
That better be some good Frosted Flakes.
Yeah, but it's Canadian bacon!
Shame about their fixed low currency, really. More of us each year are descending into poverty and can no longer afford to buy their products. Our U.S. national debt is heading for $20 billion (plus maxed out private and other debts), and we’re heading for worse trouble than our neighbors just to the north.
Like China, Canada would best decouple as much as possible from the USA for a while and get more self-sufficient. And oil will go up much more and sooner than big sponsored propaganda tries to lead us to believe. Wells are being shut down and plugged all over the place with producers going bankrupt and unable to get more loans in the future.
Canadian bacon expensive in Canada.
I’ll bet a sixer of LaBatts Blue is still in reach.
How much for a cup at Tim Hortons?
It’s the far north, due east of the middle of Alaska!
Extreme cost to transport product up there.
Poutine is evil and should be heavily taxed. IMHO.
Enjoy neighbors. I just stepped outside to poke a few holes in the snow with warm bodily fluids. The sky is clear and a toenail moon is bright while no islamic call to prayer can be heard for hundreds of miles. Life is still good here in America and we intend to keep it that way.
