Some Thoughts on Something Besides Cruz's Eligibility
11 January | Vanity

Posted on 01/11/2016 6:18:49 PM PST by Shery

Personally, I was shocked when the "queen of conservatism" came out for Donald Trump. Phyllis Schafly has been a conservative icon for so long, and even though I've disagreed with her a couple times in the recent past, I was flabbergasted that she would pick somebody who openly declares that he doesn't see his need of asking God's forgiveness for anything. I realize she predicated her choice on what he claims to be his stand on immigrants, and how he says he will deal with the illegals. However, has she been listening to him or just reading what she wants to hear? He has flip-flopped on the issue so much as to make me throw up my hands and declare "What does he really intend to do...can somebody please explain it to me?" To one group it's this, to another, it's something else. That's not exactly what makes me feel secure about a person's stand on an issue, but with Trump, it doesn't seem to matter.

The other important issue is this. Who will he pick for the Supreme Court? That's THE critical issue that is not being talked about this cycle. Several currently serving are of age to pass on during the next few years. I do not see Trump choosing a conservative. He is not one, so why would he choose one? He is not for defunding Planned Parenthood. He is not a small government guy. He has no plan for anything realistically other than, "We're going to do this, it's going to be fun, and we'll get it done." That's policy? Sounds more like a coach before a kid's baseball game, not a presidential candidate laying out plans.

I feel that this year, 2016 is America's last chance at redemption. Franklin Graham is going to every state to hold a crusade and call for prayer/fasting for our country and this election. The very least we can do is pray and ask God who is the best choice to lead America back to a place where we are morally sound again. Wouldn't we want a real Christian to be that leader? Trump knows noting of the Bible. He doesn't think he needs to read it or live by it. True conservatives are those who see the big picture is more than fiscal conservatism or simply feeding the poor. It is being a leader to help get America back on moral grounds again, as well as leading in the other areas.

My prayer is that Americans wake up to the real battle going on for the souls of men everywhere. Satan is our Enemy and he is winning in America. Pastors have equated running for office with greed, avarice, ungodliness, etc. How do you elect godly men and women if you equate even the godly with he ungodly? Our forefathers never wanted to see the day when the founding principles would be thrown out, trashed, stomped on and godly people reviled. Pastors who shame people from voting will have blood on their hands. Christians who refuse to vote because Jesus is not running have blood on their hands. One can sin through omission as well as commission. Remember that.

A godly leader is marked by a servant attitude, transparent integrity, godly character; a good leader uses gracious words not speech that is like a scorching fire.

As good citizens we should not leave the operation of the government to ungodly men. How can we prevent that? One way is to use our vote wisely. We have the opportunity to vote in the primaries to choose a godly leader. This is an area that most (even Christians) fail at. We will be accountable before God as to how we voted...or not. When we could have done good and refused to, we give the enemy a foot int he door. You may be angry that you don't feel you had much choice, but there is still a choice. More of one if you join the few that actually do turn out for a primary vote. THAT is where YOU can make a big difference.

PLEASE vote in the primaries, and even if your candidate doesn't win, remember the consequences of staying home and letting Bernie Sanders or Hillary Clinton win.

I am a Cruz supporter as he is the most conservative candidate at this time. Should Trump receive the GOP nomination, he is almost assuredly the most conservative of the two candidates that will run for President. At least I dont see ANYONE on the Dem side to be more conservative than Trump.

As such, I will donate, work for and support Cruz. If Trump is the nominee, I can hold my nose and vote for him.

You make some very good points. Ms. Schafly has compromised her values. Maybe she is suffering from dementia. She is 91, after all.

I’d vote for ANY Republican over any Dem for any office. Not voting = a vote for the Dems.

I support Trump and Cruz. Would like to see them as a ticket, but I’d be happy with either. Cruz is the most conservative option at this point.

I’m a Cruz supporter and unlike Romney, McCain or Dole, if Trump were the nominee, I don’t feel I would have to “hold my nose,” to vote for him. I’m still struck by Cruz stating that anyone on the stage was better then the Democrat offering.

Trump is a democrat.

One of his scumbag voters here at FR the other day called Ted Cruz’s view that the unborn are alive “extreme”.

I won’t be voting with that kind of person ever.

So, you prefer to wait until the purest of the pure candidate who has a realistic chance of winning comes along. And when, pray tell, might that happen?

Phyllis Schafly is 92 years old. Who knows what her mental condition is?

Did someone ask you to ?
That makes 2 of us.
So you don’t care if trump appoints a liberal to the SC and they turn over the second amendment?
I can’t believe how people trust him.
He trashed Scalia and he knows what about conservatism? Can you say nothing.

Shery this is a stupid post... Trump is a good man and he has been blessed more than most of us in life.

Why would you think God is not behind him and smiling upon him?

This pathetic, error filled,IGNORANT screed just makes you look dumb!

You loathe Trump SO much, that you've lashed out at Phylis and posted completely erroneous bilge.

Trump has said that he is very impressed by Judge Thomas and Alito, as prime examples of whom he would like to see more of on the SCOTUS. Do you have a problem with that?

He is an old fashioned PATRIOT, who is a BIG defender of the Constitution; especially the first two Amendments.

He is for lower taxes, less government intrusion, and for a smaller government...doing away with all of the fraud and waste.

He wants to rebuild the military, fix the mess at the V.A., have ALL of laws abided by, get rid of the damned ILLEGAL ALIENS and to NOT take in ANY Muslim "refugees".

But oh me, oh me, *clutch at your pearls*, you're shocked, SHOCKED, you tell us, that a staunch CONSERVATIVE has proclaimed her support of him. LOL

Have you ANY idea just HOW ridiculous you have now made yourself look ?

Phyllis Schlafly is amazing. Some great Freeper turned me on to the The Barry Goldwater 1964 Campaign 50th Anniversary Forum. We are watching history repeat itself.

If you have 9 minutes watch from 6:10- 15:39 of this video with Schlafly describing how the establishment of the Republican Party takes out grassroots candidates. This is really timely...
