Fighting against an entrenched Washington D.C. Establishment that refuses to give up the perks and power they feel entitled to and will use any means available to hang onto
The similarities between Donald Trump and the Tea Party movement are blazingly obvious. Perhaps that is why the Washington D.C. Establishment and its pundits either cannot make the connection or refuse to acknowledge it all together. It is not as if there is a lack of information out there for the Establishment political pundit to not have stumbled upon and made a connection. Nor should there be a problem with connecting the two together for an Establishment political pundit. Are not Mr. Trump and the Tea Party Movement considered unserious, uneducated, and unthreatening? You would think linking Mr. Trump and the Tea Party Movement would be each party putting the albatross around the neck of the other. But oddly, that has not happened. One can conclude that the connection between is purposely being ignored. Therefor I would like to put to the reader three similarities Mr. Trump and the Tea Party Movement seem to share.
1) Mr. Trump and the Tea Party Movement were once thought by the Washington D.C. Establishment as to be a fad that would fade away after few weeks. We saw this response published in almost every format pundits had access to present their views. When the so called “fad†failed to dissolve in the initial time frame predicted, they just changed the time frame it would disappear. Even as both Mr. Trump and the Tea Party Movement gained momentum they still insisted it would fade away. Yet not only have they outlived the repeatedly moved dates of departure, they gained more traction with each prediction.

So supporting the corn subsidy is now considered a Tea-Party plank?
How about a single-payer government controlled and subsidized Health-Care program?
Did Trump support of Kelo, Single payer health care, Ethanol subsidies, Planned Parenthood, confiscatory taxes on the rich, opposition of Medicare/Social Security reform, enhances gun control and Did Trump on multiple documented occasions donate to Democrat campaigns/causes over the years.
...also did Trump praise Romney for his gentle approach to illegal immigrants and badmouth Republicans for being mean spirited in their approach to illegal immigration a scant 3 years ago?
I don’t think the Tea Party would agree with ANY of these positions. Mr. Henkins certainly doesn’t let the facts get in the way of a good narrative.

To believe this article, one must believe that the TEA party must stand for:
- Support for the Kelo decision
- Support for gay “marriage”
- Tax schemes that allow for a tax-free group of citizens
- Support for crony capitalism (in the form of donations to democrat politicians)
I admire Trump for bringing several key issues to the forefront, his attack on political correctness and his willingness to hold nothing back on the Clintons.
But Trump is NOT TEA party.
The sole purpose of an article like this is to limit the appeal of Trump and turn off Trump supporters who are generally outside the Tea Party realm, such as Dems, union people and minorities. The reality is that Trump’s support is so widespread because he is viewed as a person who can do those things, like bring jobs back, that appeal to everyone.
Differing perceptions exist there is no doubt. But I suspect most TPs would
welcome and or support some of the following:
.... Trump is addressing the issues of government over reach and out of control spending,
cronyism, immigration, constitutional rights being assailed by a runaway President,
and the lack of anyone willing to do something about it....

With that said, it's simply amazing how many so-called Freeper T.E.A. Party Conservatives act like star-struck Kardashian groupies towards Trump.
And can't wait to post anything negative about the real T.E.A. Party candidate.
Perhaps, but we do have a candidate that is vastly more in line with Tea Party ideals and is NOT carrying all of Trump’s liberal baggage.

I’m a Cruz supporter. Cruz is a better candidate because Trump is in the race. I also think that Cruz supporters have helped Mr Trump sharpen his message, which is still in progress. No need to pre-emptively dump on Cruz supporters before the fact.
What a loss you guys are building for yourselves. You really think Trump has TEA Party coat tails?

That may be correct but at some point ‘electability’ should become an issue. Great
to have someone 100% behind all your beliefs but if that person can’t win the
Nov. 8, 2016 election it matters not a whit.

Everyone has to work in some field, some more specialized that others. I don’t have
a particular problem with that as knowledge of the process is valuable towards getting
things done. But you do have to have the blessing of enough of the voters to win.
Can’t agree on this one. I know a lot of people - myself included - who would vote for Trump, even if he’s not our first choice; Cruz is my first choice, Trump my second. I’d vote for either for entirely different, but related reasons.
I’m Tea Party; my friends, by and large, are not. Most are pretty conservative, think they’re Democrats (although they don’t always vote that way) and many are union members. Without exception, not a one of them voted for Obama’s second term (or won’t admit it) and every single one of them/us is highly pissed off at the direction the country has taken. The “POF” (Pissed-Off Factor) is what we have in common and Trump’s clear understanding and acknowledgement of why we’re pissed and his willingness to talk about it in terms we’d use with one another is what separates him from the rest of the pack, Cruz included.
While I think Trump is eminently electable, I shudder at the use of that term; Dole, McCain and Romney were, according to “conventional [lack of] wisdom”, very electable.
