Putin may indeed relate to the populist strength exhibited by Donald Trump, and there’s good reason to consider Trump and Putin to be equitable adversaries. However, any praise from Putin toward Donald Trump is more specifically targeted to further ridicule president Stompy Feet.
In alignment with many Americans, Valdimir Putin also despises radical Islam and views Recep Erdogan (Turkey) as a complete snake.
(Via BBC) […] The Russian president brushed off concerns about Mr Trump’s controversial proposal to ban Muslims from the US.
He said Russia was ready to work with whoever was elected the next president.
“It is not our business to determine his merits, that is up to US voters,” Mr Putin told reporters after his annual televised news conference. “But he is the absolute leader in the presidential race.”
“He is a very outstanding person, talented, without any doubt.” (link)
Donald Trump responds: “It is always a great honor to be so nicely complimented by a man so highly respected within his own country and beyond.”

Definitely not upside down. The last thing Putin wants is President Trump to deal with. The disinformation is another sign of desperation only this time on the part of the Russians. The Russians believe that their PR ostensibly for Trump will diminish his support.
Don’t be fooled.
I wasn't fooled.
It was sarcasm.
I’ve come to understand Trump that many don’t.
If Trump receives a complement he exchanges pleasantries and returns the compliment. It is what he does.
We have plenty of examples in the last 6 months.
Krauthammer criticizes Trump. Trump returns it back in-kind. Kraut says something nice, Trump says thank you.
The same with Frank Luntz with his made up focus groups that have been pooh poohing Trump from the get go until his recent one. Lutz must have smelled the coffee and woke up that Trump is inevitable. Trump said thank you to Frank Luntz after months of Trump slamming him.
KKK, Stormfront, David Duke, Putin...
who next... maybe Hitler?
And there was Joe Scarborogh trying to get Trump to denounce Putin.
Why? To what end?
The guy publicly pays you a compliment and you are expected to publicly insult him in return?
That’s not how things work either in diplomacy, politics or war.
We all understand “my esteemed colleague” means “that prick over there”.
You weren’t fooled. But how many will be fooled?
Come into my den and sit awhile said the spider to the fly....
That number can't be found anywhere as fools have always existed in the world--and always will. Why bother to try to count them? Better advice would be on how to AVOID them or circumvent them.
Just saying.
He’s both a gentleman and a counterpuncher.
Maybe you
LOL, priceless!
That was a rhetorical question. the immediate answer may be partly divined by a drop in Trump’s poll numbers or by a nuanced attack by the media. It remains to be seen whether Hillary will try to tar Trump as a Putinista or her minions in the media will make the attempt.
After the Duke comparison, it’s safe to say we haven’t seen the kitchen sink thrown at Trump yet.
The last thing Vladimir Putin wants is an American president who will Make America Great Again.
Putin understands what will make both Russia and the U.S. great again — freer trade.
Russia is suffering under the post-Crimea-takeover sanctions imposed by the West, which make it impossible for Russia to trade freely in the global marketplace.
Yet Donald Trump is against free trade. He’s already alienated two of the U.S.’s most important trading partners — China and Mexico — and has vowed to impose import fees on foreign products coming into the U.S. — which of course will be greeted by foreign countries’ countervailing import fees on our products.
In other words, a President Donald Trump would place sanctions on the U.S.’s free trade, just like the West has placed sanctions on Russia’s. Then our economy would collapse just like Russia’s. What could make Vladimir Putin happier?
Putin wouldn’t be going out of his way to glorify Donald Trump unless he thought his words would help Donald Trump’s candidacy, and Donald Trump wouldn’t be going out of his way to publicly bask in Putin’s compliments if he did not also believe it would help his candidacy. What a wonderful bromance this could be.
Trump against Free Trade?
I haven’t gotten that. I thought that he was more for “Fair Trade”. You mention China and Mexico, does China and Mexico allow American trade in on the same basis as we allow their products into the US?
He mentions more often how our government doesn’t know how to negotiate a balanced trade agreement, nuke deal, or other agreement.
I’d appreciate edification.
