Any Trump Attacks on Cruz Probably Aren't Going to Work Like They Did with Others
Reaganite Republican ^ | 14 December 2015 | Reaganite Republican

Posted on 12/14/2015 5:03:58 AM PST by Reaganite Republican

After breezily dispatching (Walker, Perry) and/or permanently crippling
(Bush, Rand Paul) a number of weaker GOP challengers who dared to get-up-in-his-grill, Donald Trump is now making noises about going after Ted Cruz... but if he does, this time it's likely to be different.

First off, he looks like a disingenuous hypocrite to attack Ted Cruz after allying himself with him so closely to this point, saying nice things repeatedly, and claiming they think almost identically. He's clearly taking a huge risk in alienating the Republican base.

Trump has claimed he's only going to get into tangles with Cruz 'if he comes after me first', but with the media egging him on now daily The Donald seems to be attempting to stoke some open friction. This really does make him look like the politician he always claims not to be... Trump's all but said himself he has no reason to attack Cruz but for personal political gain-- how deeply cynical to not even hide it.

Truth is, Cruz's base of support consists of Evangelicals unlikely to be charmed into voting for Trump... as well as many voters like myself who agree with a lot of what Trump says -and think he's done the process a lot of good- but long ago decided Cruz was a better presidential candidate, one with a still-more-conservative platform. I'm not a Trump 'hater' at all, but there is nothing he could possibly say or do that would have me taking him over Ted Cruz in the primary.

For all the talk about how loyal Trump voters are, the support Ted Cruz has earned to this point has him out-front by ten points in Iowa now... and all of those people have already had a long, hard look at Donald Trump.

When Trump attacked those with fragile support, it was an entirely different situation that he faces in going after Ted Cruz... I'd say he's even going to have a hard time coming up with material/dirt on Senator Cruz -without sounding like Mitch McConnell- the guy is clean as a whistle and a true Reaganite... not much to pick apart there, nothing any conservatives would give a hoot about, anyway.

On top of that, Cruz probably won't take the bait, either...

I did answer it...that kind of attack is neither from the left or the right...it’s a judgment issue, not an ideological one.

Guess it was over your head.

Carson had much less baggage and look where he is now

Joke post? Carson was brought down by
#1. By all them stories about knifing and whatnot that turned out to be doubtful at best
#2. The Paris attacks after which he was perceived to be I'll Informed and not up to date on foreign affairs and not quite ready to be commander in chief.

Ted Cruz has ZERO baggage, having led an exemplary life. You wanna talk baggage let's talk Mr Baggage Trump.

Yep, it was either A: a Trump infiltrator (I thought DT was above such things) or B: an intentional leak by Cruz to bait DT into absurd remarks, which is what happened by the way.

Trump supported the Clintons and Obama was going to fix the mess Bush made.

So much for Trump judgment.

So you agree with the leftists who say questions Trump’s judgment daily?

Cruz attacked Trump first, with his arrogant, condescending comments. That was stupid, disloyal, dishonest.

The only one being stupid is you. Ted Cruz's comments about Trump were right on the money. Cruz has a far better temperament, stability, smarts, knowledge to be commander in chief than Trump will ever be. Trump is too erratic, thin skinned, unstable and I'll Informed to be an effective C in C. Last thing we want is another narcissistic Obama in the White House

This seems to be a lapse of judgement on the part of both.

I doubt this will lead to much.

I do think Cruz has positioned himself a little better than I thought about a month ago.

If the Donald falls, it needs to be later rather than sooner. He takes the heat now from the LSM, and he may be the only one who can handle that kinde of pressure over a long period of time.

“He already did. He used a GOPe attack.”

Trump used democrat talking point attacks too.

Wow what a tiny limited mind. No, I agree with the many true conservatives who also question Trump's judgment...and there are many - and in fact I agree with you that Cruz shouldn't have said it - unless he was baiting Trump into Trump's leftist rants this weekend. But most of all, this is simply not a left/right issue, regardless of whether a leftist or righty says it. It just is what it is.

“Trump supported the Clintons”

Not for president, as I recall. Trump supported and endorsed Reagan, McCain, and Romney for president.

“and Obama was going to fix the mess Bush made.”

What has that got to do with Trump?

He already did - on Sunday’s interviews he said Cruz can’t get along with people and won’t be able to work with them.

And How did that Trump cozying up to and parroting Mitch McConnell/John Boehner/GOPe talking points working out?
Well Ted Cruz hit his highest polling numbers ever right after that.
Keep them attacks from the left coming Donald baby.

Will be an interesting contest - the blunt object of Trump against the adaptable Cruz who can range from scalpel to sledge hammer at will. Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
We need to ensure we don't get another Obama-like America Hater as the next President.
The best way to ensure that is to actively support a candidate as the next President.
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other FReeloader

PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....

GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!

Donate to FR

Donate to Cruz

So Trump can get along with people and will be a “Deal Maker” making deals with the democrats.

Making deals with democrats isn’t a solution to the problem it is the problem.

Cruz understand that, Trump doesn’t.

Do you think Reagan made deals with the democrats? (other than amnesty?)

He drew them to his side, which us what Trump will do. All Cruz managed to do was get a name for himself. I’m sure it was a calculated move.

Reagan didn’t have a republican House and Senate to work with.

Trump would but he would still make deals with democrats, or is Trump lying?
