FBI Director Apparently Doesn’t Know How Buying a Gun on the Internet Works

Gun owners, brace yourselves: this clip may make your blood boil.

In a Senate Judiciary Committee oversight hearing held yesterday, FBI Director James Comey was brought before legislators to primarily discuss the recent terrorist attack in San Bernardino, California. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) began his question-and-answer period with Comey with a seemingly simple question: “If I buy a gun on the internet, is it delivered to my home?”

Comey, perhaps surprised by the question, seemed to stumble. Graham clarified, asking “if I try to buy a gun on the internet, where do I pick it up?”

Looking perplexed, the FBI Director replied “I assume it’s shipped to you, but I don’t know for sure, actually.” You can see the exchange in the video embedded below:

Between stupidity and dishonesty, the souls are being revealed as dead. I've bought a few guns and lower receivers for rifles over the Internet. ALL, that's right ALL, had to be send to an FFL holder business and I had a background check performed there for ten bucks each time.

Pretending ignorance is an alinskyesque tactic. Community organizing mentality has destroyed the Republic. Barry Soetoro is so proud ...

Not too many conservatives do, but this is still jaw-dropping nevertheless.

You can just grab one out of the Tactical AR Vending Machine at any Paycheck Cashing place, right?

Lord what a putz. I’m surprised he didn’t have to do an aside with some flunky before his reply.

Doesn’t it depend on who you purchase it from?

If you purchase from a Federally licensed firearms dealer it’s not going to your door, they’re going to have an arrangement with a local gun dealer (usually a pawn shop) that will collect a fee to process the FBI background check before releasing the gun.

If you go on Craiglist and buy a gun from Joe Blow he can ship it to your door. No different that buying a gun through the classified section of the newspaper.

Where Joe Blow has to be careful is how many guns he sells a year. I’m not sure what the threshold is, but beyond it you’re considered a ‘dealer’ and must be federally licensed, and go through all that entails in order to buy and sell guns.

this just adds credence that gun control is all about eventual confiscation and has nothing what so ever to do with government concern of public safety as those in government so eagerly and deceptively espouse.

Jeez ....

I’ve never done it, but I know how it works.

Can you say “FFL”?

I knew you could.

I think that Comey didn't really know how an internet gun purchase happened.

If he did, he didn't want to say that there is no direct shipment without a complete background check, just as if you went to your local gun store. Azzhole.

I’m pretty sure Craigslist no longer supports gun sales.

I have been asked about "internet gun sales" a lot in the last two months, and despite my limited knowledge, I know more about the subject than the director of the FBI. Wonderful.

Deep-fried crap on a stick, there isn't much left in DC worth salvaging.

Amazing that he wasn’t aware of how FFL’s are required.

That’s ‘cause you haven’t read the definition of the word expert.

Expert - N: Ex means “used to be” and a spurt is nothing but a drip under pressure.

Serious restrictions on shipping guns. I’m pretty sure that unless you’re an FFL, the post office won’t do it. Not sure if they’ll do it then. Not sure about ups and fedex or other shippers. I’ve done some mail order and they always have to go from the FFL seller to a local FFL who then does the check. Craigs list face to face or armslist face to face is not an issue in a lot of locations. Unless a state law requiring ALL transfers go through an FFL. Of course someone who wants to violate the rules and regs will ALWAYS find a way to do it.

Yea, they had to get politically correct.

I miss the days when you could order guns through the Sears and Monkey Wards catalogs.

No wonder the public thinks the gun laws we have are too lax.
