Republican establishment take note: At the end of the night a Kentucky Democrat called the crushing defeat of his Party’s candidate a result of “Trump-mania.â€
For the GOPe, in just one year Matt Bevin has come from “annoying†to “serious†to Governor Elect of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Bevin, the personification of “outsider,†has won a resounding victory in the Blue Grass State that changes the make-up of its government across the board.
Sweeping to a victory that the pollsters tried to convince Kentuckians would be an upset if at all, Bevin whipped the tar out of Democrat Jack Conway by a runaway 53/44 points.
How scary is this for the GOPe in Washington and Frankfort?
Bevin is the prototype Donald Trump of this election. Last year he was swamped under in a Republican primary against Mitch McConnell by 25 points but would not go away. This year the self- financed investment manager who has spent $7 million between last year and this, had to fend off GOPe parochial attacks calling him an “East Coast Con Man.†He entered the Republican gubernatorial primary literally in the final hours. He started from a position at the back of a three man race behind better known, better financed establishment candidates.
