'Every restaurant in America would shut down.'
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's strong stance on illegal immigration has already drawn serious backlash from the restaurant industry, and celebrity chefs José Andrés and Geoffrey Zakarian have pulled restaurants from Trump's new Washington, D.C., hotel. Now ex-cook and current world-traveling TV host Anthony Bourdain is getting into the mix. Bourdain made an appearance on SiriusXM's StandUP With Pete Dominick and defended America's undocumented workers.
I grew up in the restaurant business â 30 years in the restaurant business. I came out of, like a lot of other white kids, I rolled out of a prestigious culinary institute and went to work in real restaurants. I walked into restaurants and always, the person who had been there the longest, who took the time to show me how it was done, was always Mexican or Central American. The backbone of the industry - meaning most of the people in my experience cooking, preparing your food. Twenty of those years in this business I was an employer, I was a manager employer. Never, in any of those years, not once, did anyone walk into my restaurant â any American-born kid â walk into my restaurant and say I'd like a job as a night porter or a dishwasher. Even a prep cook â few and far between. Just not willing to start at the bottom like that.
Bourdain went on to say that if Trump were to win the presidency and deport 11 million illegal immigrants, "every restaurant in America would shut down," and restaurant owners share his sentiment because "they'd be up the creek. ... It is really, really getting hard to find people to do the jobs."

It's not the first time Bourdain has commented on Trump. He previously said The Donald "offends me" and the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City is "the enemy of the human spirit." Bourdain hasn't given his coveted endorsement for the 2016 election, but he threw his support behind Barack Obama in 2012 and 2008.
“the person who had been there the longest, who took the time to show me how it was done, was always Mexican or Central American. The backbone of the industry “
So?
Come here legally, and you will have plenty of Mexicans to work there, or how about employ AMERICANS, you jack@ss.
“Never, in any of those years, not once, did anyone walk into my restaurant - any American-born kid - walk into my restaurant and say I’d like a job as a night porter or a dishwasher. Even a prep cook - few and far between. Just not willing to start at the bottom like that. “
They would be if they stopped getting paid to lay around, smoke dope, watch cable and make babies.
We all recall that prior to 1985 and the influx of illegal immigrants there were no restaurants in the US. Thanks for the reminder.
‘Every restaurant in America would shut down.’
No. Although prices would go up and incidents of food poisoning would go down.
Who/what is a Bourdain?
He has had a drug problem, too.
I know of a retired Chief Engineer of a state highway system
That washed dishes to put himself through college..
With a wife and two small children..
But of course we didn’t have millions of illegal
aliens keeping wages low, taxes high...
And of course this was before the Feral
Goobermunt stepped in to make college
Affordable !
I really dislike Tony. I’ve watched his show a few times and he eats crap. Last I watched he was eating fish sperm. Probably not far off from his regular diet.
OK, I said it. /levin mode

What a liar...I’ve washed dishes at a restaurant..
I’ve also picked fruit..etc etc
Anthony likes any food a peasant can put together. He can get emotional about the tradition and culture even if it is a cow’s uterus. That goes for Andrew Zimmern too. Tony thinjks hes cool but he is kind of a dork.
very pro-immigration.

This jerk is not the least pro-immigration...
Everything he says is anti-immigration and pro illegal alien...
“Who/what is a Bourdain?”
Someone who has no reservations.
If a drunk driving illegal alien ever crashes into this arrogant snob Anthony Bourdain, the needle on my “give a flying crap meter” will not budge.
Many of these illegals have diseases that were long ago conquered in America.
Who wants them preparing our food?
OK, so why don’t we ever see a poll of heroin addicts? Because heroin addicts aren’t exactly known for making good decisions for themselves or anyone else. But we’re all supposed to care what this one particular heroin addict thinks? He’s a dropout, a heroin addict, and he doesn’t know crap. He and his opinions are completely irrelevant.
Are we to take from this that ALL the restaurant workers are illegals, and the owners KNOW it?
Are there NO legal restaurant workers? Do we WANT illegal plague carriers messing with our food?
Bump!
I have noticed that even former members of ‘The Apprentice’ who he fired speak highly of him.
They creep in—then ethnic solidarity takes over-—everybody else is out. It’s a known fact in L/V-—latinos control the kitchen jobs-—you cant get in unless you’re latino.
I notice they’re taking over TV on-air jobs....that one at Fox is so offensive.
I agree with your assessment (except he apparently favors illegal imigration), and his shows are interesting. They're usually, but not always, apolitical.
